RANT: Stupid postal worker

CLIFF NOTES
1) Wanted to ship game wrapped in bubble wrap Media Mail
2) Postal worker said computer games don't qualify, and neither does bubble wrap
3) Postal manager said they do.
4) I saved $2 over parcel post
-----------------------------------------------------------
I swear, I have the worst luck with postal employees.

I go to mail a copy of Half-Life 2 that I sold that I had wrapped in bubble wrap and put in a box. Stand in line and when I get to the front ask the worker how much to send the package. She give me a list for Priority and Parcel Post. Both were $4+.

Didn't want to pay that much, so I asked how much Media Mail was. With a slightly suspicious look on her face she asks me what was in the box. I told her it was a computer game. Her reply was that games did not qualify for Media Mail unless they were "educational". I of course disagreed and asked her to show me the regulations for Media Mail.

The document she produced did cover what items were acceptable, and sure enough "precorded computer media" was right there on the bottom. She insisted that because one of the allowed items was educational board games, that since my game was not "educational" it didn't qualify. Bringing up the point that my item only had to meet *ONE* of the items, it didn't need to be an educational item, 16mm film, book, etc - just the computer media. She give up on that point.

Then she decides to inspect my packing job. Asking what else was in the box I replied, "bubble wrap". She then informs me that bubble wrap is not allowed to be sent with media mail items. Only padded envelopes can be used. Again I ask her to verify this. She responds with a document saying "newspaper used as packing material cannot weigh over 1lb". Since the bubble wrap I use is neither newspaper or heavier than 1lb, I tell her she is just making stuff up.

She gets even more upset at this point and runs to grab her manager. He comes back and pulls out the DMM (or something). After spending 10 minutes looking through this book, he tells her nothing says that a computer game shipped in bubble wrap doesn't qualify, and to let me ship the package. She of course didn't say a word to me while she finished my transaction.

Silly maybe? I only saved $2, but it was kinda fun to try and make this lady prove herself. Still can't figure out why she made such a big deal out of it..... oh well!

Yup. The few times I've actually been asked what was in my media mail package, I quoted verbatim from the regulation so they for sure wouldn't mess with me:

Me I'd like to ship this media mail please.
Postal Worker <Shakes box> We have restrictions on these, what are you sending?
Me Computer recorded media such as CD-ROMs and diskettes

😉

I like how a USPS worker had the balls to try and say that HL2 wasn't educational. Come on, I learned a lot from that game when I had it...

Strider = bad.

Media mail Bites,

I hate when I get something sent to me via medial mail.

I could ride a bicycle across the USA faster than media mail gets delivered,
WTF I want a choice,

If you are going to ship via media mail warn the person,
and ask if they want to pay an extra $3.00 to get the stuff in less than 2-3 weeks.

Please.
Pretty please?

There is a little known section of the Postal Code that deals with pornographic materials. You can read about it here. Basically, it is up to the individual to decide what is pornographic. I have used this numerous times to stop Credit Card solicitations. You have to fill out a form and staple the material to it. It goes to a processing center and the sender is notified not to send you anything more. The sender is subject to a rather large fine and some legal troubles if they do not comply.

The first time I used it, the woman behind the counter accepted it with no questions. The second time, this turd of a guy they have there gave me a real tough time over it. Even refusing to accept it because it wasn't pornographic to him. After a brief "discussion" with him in which I told him that he better check with the Postmaster before he dug his hole any deeper, he begrudgingly accepted it and literally threw it across the room.

2nd story.

I moved into a new home. I got a notice from the Post Office that they would no longer be delivering my mail until I moved my Mailbox to the opposite side of the road. After a few questions, I determined the previous owner refused to move the box. Of course they continued to deliver the mail to him, but they were not going to deliver mine.

I moved the box and wouldn't you know, two months later the asshats wanted it moved back to side of the road it was on originally.

I have done everything in my power to deny these people as much income as I possibly can. All my bills are deducted automatically from my accounts. I fax everything I possibly can. And email and the telephone take care of most everything else.

Screw them all!

Yeah, Media Mail is slow. The person who bought the game already had my Steam account info & CD-Key, so they said however I wanted to ship the game was fine, as long as it came in.
