Rant: Stupid MLB!!!

So I'm a die-hard Cardinals fan, born and raised, and my favorite player is Red Schoendienst. I finally decided to buy a jersey, but I found out today that the MLB makes it illegal to stitch names of players that have been traded or retired from their team into jerseys. WTF?! How else am I supposed to get a Schoendienst jersey? Does anyone have any idea?

It's not that easy. I'm not going to stitch the freaking thing myself, so I have to buy it somewhere, and nobody is going to sell me one with that stitched to it.

Hire a local tailor.

eBay?
And pay $350 or more for one? That's not an option. It would cost $100 to get a regular customized version, and I'm not going to pay much more (maybe $150) for one. I just don't get why they can't put retired players on there? What does that hurt?

Hmmmm.... maybe.... I might give that a shot. Still, it's ridiculous that I have to go to those lengths.

The MLB has no rights to the players name after they leave the league usually.

can't you make a custom jersey and just tell them to stitch it?
No, that's what I'm saying. The disclaimer on every customized jersey site I've been to says that the MLB does not allow retired players' names to be used on customized jerseys.

From this page:

"The MLB only allows the stitching of current players. No retired or traded players may be stitched on St. Louis Cardinals jerseys."

This site seems to indicate the same thing:

"League player names must match current team rosters and the team for which they currently play"

Hehe... I thought about that, but they were specific that it couldn't be the name of a retired player. Imagine if your last name was Brock or Musial!

I think it's even more ridiculous that someone is considering going to all these lengths just for a shirt with someone else's name on it. 😕

Seriously... was it worth your time to thread crap? I mean, I'm not a crazy fanatic-type fan, I would just like a jersey with my favorite player's name on it.

Congratulations, your post count is now 1 higher.

I think it has more to do with PA, than MLB. PA is the one that sells the license for players name, and my guess is that once the player retires the general license no longer covers them. The very same reason if you play madden they use fake name for retired players.

Buy the damn jersey, take it to a shop. . . or someone you know that can do this sort of thing, and bingo. . . all done, for under $350 dollars.
