My sisters boyfriend....both are freshman.... is building a computer. now i have thought that this kid was strange to begin with but what he just did blows my mind.

he says he is really good with computers and has asked questions before. he asked me if i have any spare processors that he could use. i said i have a few pentiums @ 120mhz. i asked what it would be for and he says he just got a new asus p4 board but couldnt afford the processor yet and wanted one to just "get it running".

he doesnt know the model of the board but more importantly he wants to put a socket 7 pentium on a socket 478 p4 board. i said, obviously, thats impossible and if you even thought of doing that you dont know what the hell you are talking about. he says he has read articles that its been done and that he is getting an adapter to make it work from another friend.

WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think i will give him a dead cpu and see what he does.

Please do. Then let us know the result.

Reminds me of this idiot I argued with over 3DMark. He tried to tell me the lower your score is, the better.

And get pics if you can.

Maybe you can help teach him a thing or two on computers. Just don't mess with the guy without teaching him a thing or two about computers. That's just messed up.

Tell him to guy buy a Dell..

Also, WTH would you put a pentium in a 'newer' motherboard? Why not just pick up some old used mobo for $10? Thats like purchasing a USB hub without anything to use it for, or buying a DVD player and no DVD's to play, or Car and no wheels, like that.

hahah...

i just gave him a pentium 75 and asked if he got the adapter yet.

he says his friend is on vacation becuase school just ended and that he wont be back for a week.

could he have realized the error of his ways??

i think not.

I have a radical suggestion: help him with his project. It sounds like he needs it and it will be your good deed for the day.

I say screw with him until he admits that he was wrong.

Yeah. Just give him whatever he wants, and when he tries to stick his 9700 in the PCI slot take pics.
