[RANT] Students suck! [/RANT]

Here's the gist:

I'm an instructor teaching kids as well as adults, and there's a big test coming up soon. Up til then, there's always been the ones who had an interest in the subject, and the people who don't care: the thing is, this is not a public school, where student attendence is mandatory, but it is completely on a voluntary basis. Yet I see people not obviously giving a sh!t about this, and yet they still pay money to be here! And because they have a test coming up, suddenly they're scrambling to get their ass in gear. Disgusting. :disgust:

I'm sick and tired of the level of apathy and greed for rewards they didn't deserve among the students here. Just thought I'd fume for a bit. Thanks for listening. :|

Well, I'll be frank. This is for martial arts, and a promotion is coming up. This is nothing new. I have kids that stayed for two years who don't give a fvck who obvisouly just want a black belt. I also have adults who don't want to be there, b!tch about how hard it is for them to be there, etc., and yet they still want to promote. I am not the head instructor, but I am part of the judging process, so I am making sure they aren't getting a black belt anytime soon. Anytime, actually. Ever.:|

Eek! Changed it to gist!

Anyhoo, I'm the "mean/evil/satanic instructor" among the students in the class - I would chew them out/kill them if they even thought about sucking up to me. The thing is - like I said, the students come on a purely voulntary basis - why the hell are they there if they don't want to learn? They can go online and buy a friggin' black belt if they wanted to! It feels like I'm wasting my time stading there . . ..

Oh, before you say anything, this dojo is operated soley on a volunteer basis, so none of us get paid to do it. We sometimes have to pay money out of our own pockets to have the right equipment etc. (actually, our head instructor does) . . ..

I just can't imagine what public school teachers have to go through. Thank god I decided against being an education major (even though the the ratio of women vs. men is like 17 to 1 [serious] and the school's one of the best education schools in the country, apparently).

Lol. I guess I could have been more accurate, but I typed it in frustration - but like I said - I can't even imagine the amount of apathetic, if not downright disagreeable, students that shuffle into class in public schools: are there any teachers here? How do you deal with that?

Enh, nobody is perfect. Most colleges are like this. I'm no angel myself. I'm 1 to 1 1/2 weeks behind on my reading for most of my classes and I always maintain a 3.5 or better average. I do generally show up and participate in all my classes though. So tell me Jehovah, would you consider me one of those students you dislike?

Well, it looks like you know your stuff, at least. I could give a damn if they knew their stuff/didn't show up at all, but WHY WASTE MY TIME AND THEIRS BY BEING THERE by showing up, not knowing their stuff, and not even willing to learn if I teach?! So no, I wouldn't consider you one of the annoying ones. (Honestly, I'm like that too - I can wing it, but I wouldn't be suprised if I didn't get a good grade, and I certainly wouldn't expect an "A" if I slacked off, which I perceive the new belt as being - kinda hypocritical, I know, but I'm acutally interested in my major and keep a good focus on it as well).

I thought you were talking about kids in the school system.

I think adults just hate getting physical. It's hard work, it makes their muscles sore.

Kids, well, they just want to beat someone up.

Hey, I'm a student (highschool, not martial arts, but...), so **** you. ;)

Edit: to make my post worthwhile, I'll just edit in that I agree with you. Waiting until the last minute is just stupid, and a sign of lack of organization and motivation in one's life. Remember, procrastination is like masturbation; with both you end up screwing yourself.

Eh, students are students. Some care, some don't. Gotta take the good with the bad or get out of the business. But venting is fun, so keep that up.

I'm planning on being an education major; what school were you looking at?

One of my college profs today got pissed at the class because about half of us hadn't done our readings beforehand. Well, most of us work and take a lot of hours, and we cannot do all reading on-time for every class, it's just not feasible. The key is prioritizing. I had two major exams, one major paper, multiple quizzes and a group project due last week and simply didn't have time to read for this particular class today. However, I have more free time this week and will be catching up on it. The test isn't for two weeks, so I don't really understand why the prof got so upset. I mean, don't teachers remember when they were in school and they had to make tough choices about what assignments get done when? It seems like each professor thinks their class is the only one and students have no outside jobs or lives, which is of course a ridiculous assumption. Please!

Your an idiot, they don't pay to be there, their mommies and daddies do, hey if its free why not do it?

Its sorta like that, if someone would pay to let you drive a jaguar for the same price as a honda civic, why not do it?

as a kid that goes to a private school, I know what its like.

Evidently they don't teach grammar at your private school.

Make the test really hard and whoever doesn't pass gets kicked out of the class. That should seperate the men from the boys.

"Jehovah" --- Hmmm...aren't you, like, God or something?

Oh $H*T! GOD'S PISSED! OH $H*T, I DIDN'T JUST SAY "OH $H*T" TO GOD, DID I? OH SHHHH...EEEEZZEE! DA...RNNNN!

I'm gonna shut up now. Please don't turn me into something mushy. :D

On a more serious note, maybe those students who piss you off DO care, just not as much as you do. I mean, if they really didn't care, they would never show up in the first place. Not unless you have a lot of hot students.

That's what we do. We ramp up the difficulty of the tests and like I said, believe me when I say this: the people who promote will work their asses off for it.

And like I said: I don't care if you don't work for it - just don't expect to be rewarded for just being there. I'm a lousy university student, and I accept my bad grades and expet nothing more. But I always try to do the minimum amount of work required (at least) for that class. It's not that they work out in the dojo and I'm just expecting too damn much - they're lazy and spoiled rotten! Pitiful weaklings . . ..

I'm planning on being an education major; what school were you looking at?

Illinois State University - I'm a 4th year student here.

Your an idiot, they don't pay to be there, their mommies and daddies do, hey if its free why not do it?

Because I will personally make your life a living hell if any kid like you steps into my dojo :| - anyhow, on a non-threatening note, why would they want to hang around a place where they don't have to be if they're just loafing around wasting both my time and theirs? I'm a nice guy, but if kids get out of hand where they might hurt others (and themselves), then I do what I have to do. It's as simple as that.
