This is the same person that was always late to class and they live on campus. By late i mean an half hour to an hour late.

Some students just don't care at all.

Edit:
Besides the final, i don't think he turned in any of the assigments due.

What subject do you teach?

Well, let's hope you can paint some masterpieces if you want to make any money.

Saturday morning final? wtf.. I'd be pissed if my instructor scheduled a final on a weekend. Course, i graduated close to 10 yrs ago and maybe things are done differently now..

Still, i'd be at work at this time..

At my old school (UNCW) the finals were scheduled by the school. The some teachers would let us choose if we wanted to take it in the first or 2nd slot, but other then that it was up to the school when finals were allowed for what classes.

Heh, my roomate turned off my alarm clock on the day of a final. Yup, failed that class. Teacher was a jerk by not letting me retake it. My roomate admitted it, and I had like an 89 in the class.

I've missed a couple exams in college.. For two of them, the professors really did their best not to allow me to retake them..

I successfully won retakes on both.. One of them, I showed up to the prof's office hours and sat in his office bugging him his entire hour twice a week for three weeks until he finally was like, "Fine! you can retake the goddamn exam!"

The other, he tried to refuse my doctor's note.. a legitimate excuse, imo - so I asked if he really wanted me to bother filling out all the paperwork, going to the dean and the department professor, him writing a letter in return as an answer, me writing a letter back, etc etc etc.. He was like "eh whatever.. here's a retake"

:D Maybe my grades aren't amazing.. but my skills in social engineering are..

The only time I ever missed an exam was when I found out that my cousin was dying of cancer the night before it. I was a wreck. I went into his office the morning of the exam and explained the situation. It was the mid-term exam, so my prof told me that he would just double-weight the final for me in place of the mid-term. Aced the final for an A in the class.

Looking back now, though, I wonder how much my prof really believed my excuse. I wonder if he let me miss the exam so that he didn't come off like an insensitive prick, even though my excuse may have sounded like "my dog ate my homework." Maybe he could read it on my face that I wasn't making it up, but if I were in his position and a student gave me that excuse, I would have some doubts about its legitimacy.

Personally, if a family member was dying or just had died who i really cared for, i would not care about the exam. I would let the school know the reason and deal with it later.

Maybe he screwed himself early on during the class and there was no hope of getting a decent grade. This happens with a lot, based on what I've seen in the more difficult subject matter classes.
