I'm always saddened when I hear stories about animals being treated poorly. No way I could work at a shelter and maintain myself emotionally. Oddly, I don't think I'd have trouble working in a hospital.

Best thing I can tell myself is that I've always taken care of my animals. My Pound Puppy (Aurora)

People are ignorant and heartless, a terrible combination.

We just rescued a little female cockatiel from a family who had it 2 years, never named it, left it out in the sun w/ no shade, had black muddish water and no food. One of the wings is permanently damaged and droops to the ground. Bleeding sore spots all over its wings where they got banged up in the rusted metal cage it lived in. It's chew toy? An aluminum coke can. Idiot people.

Glad to report it's recovering nicely and we might adopt it permanently.

My first post in this thread was a little short (I was just headed out the door).

I completely agree with the OP. I'm sick to death of irresponsible fucking pet owners. Decide one day on a whim that they want a cat or a dog, and then later on down the road have to move and give up their animals. Re-homing an animal stresses it out so badly. So rather than find a pet friendly place, they just give up their animals like it was nothing.

This kind of shit especially pisses my girlfriend off. I've never met a better pet owner in my life. The lengths she goes to for our animals is just incredible. We were recently forced to find a new apartment, and even though it was quite the task, we simply wouldn't settle for a place that didn't allow cats. Giving away our 2 cats was never an option.

1. Its an animal. Where are you posting rants and raves when people are hurt every minute of the day doing something. People and humanity have more worth than any animal out there, so stop being a hypocrite.

I agree with you to an extent. Its sad that this happens on a daily basis to animals, however, stop being a whackjob and get a grip. If you are so passionate, focus those energies on helping people, which in turn will change the way we treat others and our pets.

Feel free to curse, use a lot of bad language, whatever you think makes you look tough. Know it only makes you look the fool and the rest of us are laughing at you as evidenced by other posts in this thread.

Here's the thing; I live near Baltimore/DC. Everyday, I read the Baltimore Sun and have of the stories are of people getting shot, killing each other, robbing each other, etc. I've become desensitized to it now, as well as many others. In fact, I don't even read those articles anymore. A couple months ago, there was a story on a dog that was found in Baltimore that had been set on fire. Someone found the dog, and they took it to a vet. They tried to save the dog, but ultimately had to put the dog down. They eventually found the people who did this (2 young males), after the community raised a $25,000 reward leading to an arrest. Soon afterwards, a few people starting complaining that people were making a big deal of this. One woman, who's son was shot and killed in Baltimore some years ago, said that no one raised money to find her son's killer.

Now I could venture off and get into some opinions of my own; however, to stay on topic, my point is that many of us have just accepted the day to day horrible actions that people do to each other, because that's all we see/hear about. But when it involves a pet, particularly a dog, it hits a different nerve.
