So after having lunch at a restaurant I see from far away that the passenger's window is gone. Then I see that the thousands of window pieces laying inside my car :(. The fvcker tried to steal my radio but after realizing that is a cheap POS (the $35 bucks radio deal on ATHD) he just threw the face plate on the passenger seat. He basicaly broke my window and messed up my center console for nothing.
Q: I need to replace the passenger window. How much will that roughly cost? Will the person install the window and make sure my power window will work also? How much more does it cost for a person to come to my house to do it as opposed to me bringing it in to a store? Any good places to do this in LA?

I think you should call the police and leave replacement up to your insurance company. Why people don't call the police in these situations is literally beyond me. You just drove away after someone broke into your car?

I had that happen to me a few times. Luckily, I have a junkyard not too far away so I can fix it for cheap and they do it quick, and they also clean up the glass pieces. I think the last time the passenger window broke, it was like 70 bucks or so.

dude, for something as minor as that, what's the point of going through insurance? His rate is gonna go up, and he could fix it for so much less.

How much does window replacement typically cost? I was thinking somewhere around $500 which could be debatable based on what your deductible is, but I don't know really.

I only have liability. I got a police report but I doubt it will do me any good. I will call around tomorrow. Just wanted to know how much it is fair so I don't get ripped a new one

Some insurance companies have specific fees for window replacement. Mine does it for free, no deductible. If yours doesn't, then you'd have to pay your deductible, which more than likely, will be more than the window itself.

What you can do is go to a car yard and find a used window. Then take it to a car place and have them put it in for you. That or if you can ask the car repair place to use an old/used window, then you'd save a lot of money.

I had to do the same thing when some prick broke my driver-side window, to attept to steal my stereo. I had no faceplate and the alarm went off.

Even with a used window, you can clean it with some window cleaner and remove gunk with acetone or whatever, and it'll look good as new :)

Mine was broken into a little over a week ago. They broke 2 of the 4 windows on the passenger side (it's a 4 door Explorer) and scratched the paint up some. Total estimate for parts, labor and fixing the paint was $1100. That doesn't include what they stole. The window and labor usually aren't that bad as long as it's only the window and not the bracket, moulding, etc...probably a third of my estimate was paint and labor for the painting.

EricB: That's darn near the price for 2 of my doors :)
My Honda Accord was hit once and required 2 new doors. They sell for $700 each.
