*rant* So I was waiting behind this woman at the A&W drive through window...

1. the situation you got into
2. sometimes they mess up orders, and you have to go back in

Going in and picking it up is always faster for me. The only time I go to drive thru is when theres 1-2 cars, and my order is small.

I don't want to turn my car off and right back on a few minutes later if I can help it. It's not good for the car (fact). Drive-thrus are good for me. I eat fast food almost every day. Heh, that's not good for me.

I vaguely remember a place called A&W in michigan. If I'm not mistaken they had real good curly fries.

Anyone who thinks it's an easy job is clearly an ignoramus.

There is nothing hard or complicated about working that job (I've been there, I've done that and this is coming from experience). If there was then high school drops and people who don't speak a word of English wouldn't last too long. Is the job fun? No. Is it tiring? It can be (8hrs on yer feet dealing w/unappriciative a##holes can wear on you after a while). But it is an easy job. Basic math, communication, and organizational skills are all that is required.

Hehe, actually my cousin's bf was in there for around 6yrs and worked his way up to assistant manager, but he complained a lot about the work load to pay ratio.

Anybody who does their pay's worth in McD's (especially at a busy restaurant working drive thru where ~140 cars during lunch) will know its no easy job. Although the pay was low, I did gain a lot of experience dealing with customers, co-workers, and managers as well.

Funny (well, not really funny if I were them) how some people order something small like a drink or an ice cream cone and end up 10+ minutes in line, I"m sure the cost of the gas wasted waiting in line is about the same as the cone.

And oh yeah, when its busy busy in drive thru and I don't get secondary help immediately, cars start piling up right out to the street. Having to deal with 10+ cars in drive-thru all by myself is absolute hell, and I've had to deal with that on many occasions. And when I do screw up, you bet its all hell break lose. Especially when there's consecutive cars making huge orders. It sucks having to tell customers their food is not ready and park them aside, max I parked was 5 cars. During those 30-second promo days, god knows how many of them coupons I had to give out. But that's still no excuse for the team's poor performance. Some are understanding, others will just curse you to death.

But realize, often not (at least in my case) the scheduling manager is going cheap on service people and we have to work our butts off so they can meet their weekly/monthly budget, look good and get their bloody promotion!! Oh yeah, minimum pay for 1 and a half person's work is so much fun. Its all about the bottom line.

Maybe I should have chosen a different word. I'm just saying it's no cakewalk. No one thing about it is particularly difficult, but yes, it is tiring, and it's not fun. The busy-work during the slow hours was the worst. Most customers were reasonable enough, and I had a pretty good time dealing with them. Most managers were pansy-ass dorks on power trips though. I'm talking no people skills what so ever. I quit without notice on one of these insufferable by-the-book geeks one night when I decided I'd had enough. I swear, I knew how to do my job, but he didn't seem to think so. The good managers never lasted long, because they generally moved on to bigger and better things.

There are people, who just "bump along", completely oblivious to what is going on around them, or who they effect, with their ways. I find them everywhere, just like you, or maybe even just walking thru an isle in the supermarket, failing to recognize that their pace is keeping people from things they need to do. They piss me off. They really need to teach in school, that you don't dilly-dally around, as you impede progress of some very important people. If you must be a dilly-dallier, then please do us all a favor and move to a 200 acre ranch in Montana, so the rest of us can go about our busy lives! ;) :|

BTW, you could eat after going to the dentist? I never could.

Oh, and with my impatient type-A personality, I'd have been at her window after the second order, reminding her, that they do have parking and walk in service. ;)
