Excuse me for a minute while i rant...
Just found out today that Andrea Bocelli is coming to town in March (for those who don't know, he's one of the most famous opera singers in the world). Great i think, i love his music, let me see if i can get tickets. They went on sale just a few days ago, shouldn't be that hard... after all, Philadelphia isn't exactly known as a big opera town.
Anyways, i quickly found out the tickets were expensive.... real expensive. The cheapest, nosebleed seats started at 75 bucks, face value. The price range went all the way up to 350 a pop - and that's face value. Don't even ask what they cost by the time you add in the "processing fees" and such. And to top it all off, the show was pretty much sold out, except for single seats.
Kinda makes you wonder how much these tickets are going to get priced at for auction on Egay, doesn't it? And funny thing is, i bet the majority of the people going to the show actually know nothing about, or even hate opera. All the same, there seems to be lots of people with more money than sense, and i bet they didn't even blink while dropping what for me is a month's rent on a couple of tickets. Sigh.... i did find a couple of tickets, and relatively decent ones at that.... all for the bargain price of 225 bucks each. Looks like i'll be eating a lot of mac-n-cheese for the next couple of months if i want to see the show.
Capitalism at it's best. Gotta love it. Double sigh.
Okay, rant over. Thanks for listening.
