ARGHHH!!!! :| This thing is such a POS. I didn't notice when I bought it that it wasn't an actual compact disc but rather a "Copy Controlled" disc.

It won't let me rip the songs or let me otherwise access compressed versions to save to my PDA for portable use. If I want to play this CD on my computer I have to use some shittacular 48 kbps music in god-knows-what-format (seems to be some Windows Media tech) that only plays in the included player. Said player my 3.1 GHz HT P4 at 53% usage so it slows down everything else I'm doing (Maple computations at the moment). :|:|:|

Does anyone have a way to rip this CD? I've used several different rippers all of which have failed (most of which crash the DVD-ROM's driver while they're at it).

Screw EMI, this is the last "CD" I ever buy of any of the artists they represent. Tomorrow I'll see if I can return the CD at the store. If they won't let me I'll shatter it and mail the pieces to EMI's headquarters with a note to tell them they will never buy another CD from them again.

:| SERENITY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
<\rant>

for those who aren't bothering to read the whole thread: I used the marker trick and ripped the whole CD minus the last song.

If you bought the special edition it wasn't copy protected. It also isn't radiohead's fault, it's capitol. It's also your fault for buying something you didn't look closely at.

I believe they just put a separate session on the CD with the tracks stored as data. This is what the computer sees, and thus won't let you access the real CD-A. Are you sure EAC won't pick up the CD-A session?

Otherwise you could just connect a stereo or something to your line-in on your soundcard and record it.

Just return it saying that it doesn't play at all. If everyone returns these things saying that they don't work maybe those morons that make these will get the message.

I don't want the mp3 tracks compressed by Joe Q. Incompetent, I paid for pristine, uncompressed CD tracks.

I can't use Linux or EAC. The damn CD works by having 2 TOCs, one is good and the other one with information that makes no sense (eg. tracks with negative lengths).

(Most) CD players only read the first TOC so there's no problem. Any CD player or CD-ROM capable of handling multisession cds sees the TOC with the bad info and so can't see what the hell is going on with the audio tracks but because the TOC portion referring to the data session is good, you can install their POS player with the 48kbps songs :|

yeah because I have nothing better to do on a saturday afternoon/evening than scour the web looking for the lossless-compressed copies of a CD that may or may not exist.

I don't understand this thread. You don't want to take our suggestions for an alternative the problem you put yourself into to and then start bitching about. What the hell did you even click new thread for?

Of course not. Instead you b!tch about it on an internet forum.
Look at all that time you wasted that could be used searching. :)

PS. If you don't have solid sources by now, you are lacking internet experience and/or skill. mauahah

You see the word "RANT" in the thread title? how about the <rant> tags before and after my first post, do you see those? That's why I clicked on the f^&king "new thread" button.

Excuse me for being an asshole but I'm just a tad pissed right now and you're really not helping the situation with your sarcastic comments.

I don't think you get it, why are you ranting about your own stupidity?

You know what I just realized? Almost all of your posts have fewer words than your sig. Just making an observation.

More important words tend to get posted more often.

lol

A 192kbps sounds good enough to me at high volumes. But it may not be enough if you have a better setup then me. 5.1 creative setup and the 5.1 card. Good enough sounds on a pc for me. Just d/l it you own the cd now. You bought it and paid your dues. Now just get the dam thing off the net!

mwtgg I see the irony now :p

Ha! I got a PM from a member that got me on my way. Armed with a marker, I was able to perfectly rip all but the last track. That being said, I'm still not buying any more EMI CDs

all you idiots are overlooking the fact that the OP bought this cd and wants to legally make a copy of it for personal use

OMG to the people suggesting he just DOWNLOAD it and that he's STUPID for not doing so in the first place -- i mean i completely hate RIAA and all their crap -- but you stooges almost make validate their position

this man BOUGHT (in my opinion a defective product) and is asking for solutions if anyone knew, he's not commiting any crimes and is in this alone is more HONORABLE than any of you dishonest bastards (hey i personally will never buy a cd and i dl HORRENDOUS amounts of "copyrighted intelgenital properties" but i will never call someone who partakes in HONEST transactions stupid)

raynor btw i believe there is (however un-elegant) solution for copy controlled cds which involves using TAPE and MARKER to blank out the fvcked up data on the cd, thereby allowing a cdrom to read, dont know if this method still or will ever work for your specific copy protection but worth a try

Newbie say what?

Random quotes from other ATers:
"return it"
"take it back to the store"
"say it doesn't play"

No, we totally missed the "he bought it" point.

So we're dishonest bastards for suggesting he download copies of music he legally owns, but you're a L33t L33t Ju4r3zx0r Do0d and that's okay?

Your only redeeming quality, but you offer no advice and not even a Google results link.
