Every remote from my cable boxes have tape holding the battery covers on.

I probably only change batteries every 3-4 months. Can't they make a piece of plastic that will take more than 3 cycles of use before it breaks?

BTW-I'm crawling around on the floor right now looking for the back of one my remotes:frown:

No remotes, but I do have scotch tape holding the battery in on my work cell phone.

And yes, it's as ghetto as it sounds. ;)

I have a few, well mostly in the past...most of mine now are ok. But I think the reason why most break so frequently is that since they are located on the bottom side, they are more prone to people throwing remotes on tables. They make more contact with table tops, counters, etc and the more people drop/throw remotes on tables, the more cracked they get which leads to it breaking off.

I never lost or broke the backing to the battery compartment. I don't think I have changed my remote batteries for over a year now.

yeah, we can put a man on the moon , but we can't make a removable door thingy on a remote so it doesn't break after a couple months

go figure

just one....i think the kids played a game of "throw the only remote to the tv as hard as you can and see if it works when daddy comes home" a while back.

Free Tip: When you get a new remote, cover it in saran wrap. Make it real pretty and tight then tape it shut. Then when you spill your beer on it, just rip off the saran wrap and put a new cover on it. Works good!

Rant: I hate it when you lose a remote, and the DVD/VCR has no controlls on the player. Without a remote, you lost many functions of the player. Like speed search, direct channel access, etc.

Solution: Please put redundant remote control functions on the player itself!
