I was cruising along the highway today minding my own business when all of a sudden this f*cking 3 foot long tire tread fragment is coming straight for my car. :Q

I tried to swerve out of the way, but it got me and put a big f*cking dent in my hood and busted the grille up good before going over the top of my car and nailing the guy behind me as well.

Why do truck drivers have to use sh*tty retread tires in the hot summer anyways? All they do is fall apart and litter the highways. Spend a few bucks and get some real tires! You don't see me leaving dangerously large pieces of my car all over the highway!

Now i'm *really* glad I got the pearl coat paint, 'cause this should be cheap to fix.

*sigh* all this and the car is only 4 months old... I wash it every week, wax it once a month... and this happens. :(

I think it was already on the road and another car kicked the piece up into the air... i'm pretty much screwed. :(

sorry dude, sounds harsh man but at least it shouldn't be too bad to fix eh??

btw pics?
The dent isn't THAT bad, but the paint is what i'm worried about. It's a VW specific colour, and a pearl/metallic colour which are the hardest to apply. Not to mention that VW will charge a fortune for the grille.

No pics yet, as i'm still at work.

Why all the money worries? No insurance? No fault accidents like this very rarely affect premiums.

I have insurance, but my deductable is $300.00, and it burns me to waste this money on a deductable when i'm about to close on my first house.

you have comprehensive insurance? That should cover you for any non-accident related damage to you car. What do you have your deductible set at?

Here is what I don't get......Why don't cops take care of this crap? The other day, I saw a cop drive right past something in the road. He saw it cuz he swerved right around it. I always see this sh*t.....

While I'm beatching about cops......Why don't cops clean up an intersection after an accident? How many times have you seen an accident and driven by the same spot the next day to find there is still glass all over the street? Makes no f-ing sense.

I would rather have the cops out patroling instead of pushing a broom around an intersection. Here the tow truck drivers are supposed to be the responsible party to cleaning up after an accident, if no tow trucks, then city crews are supposed to come clean up.

How about the police hand the moron who caused the accident a big broom and let them sweep the damn street up.

Then why don't you get out and do it your self? The cops have better thins to do then to clean up after some stupid jack ass driver.

Because it's not my job to do it. I have a job and I don't ask the cops to come and do my job. Around here, it is the cops job to do it. I know, I asked a friend of the family this morning, who is a cop. Go troll somewhere else....

Ahhh... you may want to look at lowering your deductable to $50 or $100. Not sure who your Ins. company is, but it only raised my rate by $5 a month to go from $250 down to $100.

Best of luck,
CH2

Sometimes the cops have nothing to do and are just patrolling around. It wouldn't hurt them to just clean that up, if they see it and they are not going to an emergency. Going to Dunkin Donuts is not an emergency.

is the paint chipped? or is it just dented?

you might be able to save $$ by getting a paintless dent removal guy to try and get the dent out, that's what i did when someone opened their door into my car

but that only works if the paint is still in place

Sorry to hear about this, N8Magic. That's really messed-up, man. :| I take a major highway to and from both jobs everyday. FOUR lane major highway. Thousands of trucks. Thousands of pieces of tread lying in the road and flying everywhere. Its very difficult to avoid them...if they aren't scattered in your lane like so many "Bouncing Betty" landmines, they are flying directly at your windshield at 80MPH>:Q

It's bad when one of these treads hits your car. But try having one hit you IN THE CHEST while riding a motorcycle. Damn near knocked me clean off the bike...I peed myself.

That sucks. :(

Several years ago, my mom was driving toward home and she spotted retreads along the highway, more and more and more of them in fact. A little ways down the road was the rig those retreads belonged to, pulled over to the side of the road surrounded in it's own retreads.
