i've learned that business cards are useless in today's day and age. Maybe realtors and salespeople in the field need them, but not many others.

Not entirely true--having worked around the DC area, people hand em out before even shaking hands, and more than once I've used em to call in a favor.

what industry ? I'm a techie and I've had a full batch for years. The only time I needed to "whip it out" was when I went to trade shows which only used them to spam you to death. I've learned - I keep my cards at home. If another techie wants to reach you, I don't know that it's for the right reasons.

If you're a realtor or selling something, people would be contacting you for the right reasons.

But the primary focus of the company is to get contractors work, right?

Why would they have people contact you directly and keep them out of the loop? If you want your own business cards with your own information on it, then you should probably make them yourself.

I still use business cards, but rarely. In fact, my last batch ran out and I didn't even bother to get new ones; I just use my wife's and write my name on her card. They are still convenient if you need to give someone your phone number, e-mail, and business address, so I usually carry a couple with me.

I feel for the amount that they're making off of me (which is more than 2x what I'm making) they could do a little better...
they could at least put my office number or something.

Used to be in the non-profit business, economic development, international relations, diplomacy, that sort of stuff. A lot of government people and diplomats, ambassadors, etc.

What did you expect? You work for a staffing agency. They own you. Until you get hired permanent somewhere, that is. You're lucky to get cards at all.

spend the $10 and get your own business cards. or if you're savings-savvy, you know how to get them for free.
