RANT: My Credit Card has been compromised

So I get an email saying that there are some fishy transactions w/ my credit card?I go onto it and wha-la?around $400 worth of domain space registrations.

I call my CC company to cancel it and now have to call up each place and rescind the transactions.

I do use my CC for everything?from eating to tuition to online purchases. I only deal with reputable companies with SSL like Amazon, Ebay, Paypal, Verizon, etc?

So how was this possible or better question is how did some @ssfck find the numbers on the back of card? I?ve been using the same card for like 8 years with no problems?I?m damn pissed. Anyone else have this happen to them?

ssl and account passwords and all that are pretty worthless. that guards the front door. the smart thieves prefer to go in through the back.

So what...they hacked into some retail database and ganked the account numbers? I mean I have read that this has happened in the past with a lot of ecommerce sites but this is just too random.

Bad. Real bad.

12 years ago someone used my credit card NUMBER. The name and expiration date was not mine. The turkey charged $5570 to my account during a three day period. My actual charges that month were $24.88.

I simply disputed the charges and the credit card company did the rest. Took quite a while to get it resolved but my only cost was $10 for a notary public.

Why did you need a notary?

And yeah I think one of the charges was some online porn thing. The others were domain name reg and web hosting places.
