a word to the wise for anyone considering a video card any time soon - don't go PNY!!! they have just completely shafted me on a $300 6800gt video card details:

- bought card in 12/04 from bb. card comes with three year warranty.
- never registered card.
- now, approx 16 months later, card has died. only video card i ever had that just went belly up! naturally, also the most expensive.
- pny won't honor the warranty - the tiny print states that the 2nd and 3rd years are only good if you register within the first year. a**holes!!!

obviously, this rule was created to avoid honoring the warranty - you wouldn't even bother to go to their site unless you had a technical problem, which you probably won't w/in the first year. upon visiting the site to get service you discover that, since you haven't registered, your screwed. thanks for being a bunch of asshats, pny.

moral:
- NEVER BUY FROM PNY - THEY SUCK DONKEY D***S!!!
- buy from a good vendor who has a good warranty program that others are happy with.

Most companies state in the warranty that you must register within a certain number of days. PNY isn't the only company doing that.

but I bet most of those companies will honor it on a case by case basis even if you don't.

OP, call them up if you haven't. Ask for a supervisor/manager. Explain your disappointment in their company, see if there is anything they can do. There's always a chance they will approve an RMA to keep a customer.

thier cards are trash.. I too have a dead 6800GT within 3 years of purchase..
mine was registered and they still turned down RMA on mine..

PNY sucks..

AFAIK, the warranty is legally still valid even if you have not registered. At least that's what I learned in my Consumer Economics class last year...

The first year is valid. They give you a "free extended warranty" if you register. Perfectly legal.

Ah, didn't know their policy. Nevermind then, looks like you're SOL 🙁.

All this talk about video cards going down is making me worried about mine lol. I have a BFG, but still, its about a year and a half old now, I wonder if the warranty is still valid...

Lifetime.

I think its pretty nice of them to be offering a warranty past one year.

Products can sit in storage or on the shelf for years befoer they're purchased... if they don't enforce registration, how are they supposed to know when the warranty really expires?

Do you still have your receipt for it?

Some items get extended warranty after you register for it or only have warranty if you register the card within X days.
O well.

they don't do it to avoid honoring the warranty. THey do it so someone doesn't buy it, not register it, beat it for a few years, sell it to a friend who then registers it and gets the warranty honored. It's not that hard to register products. I understand your frustration, but you dont' have anyone to blame but yourself
