This has gotten WAY out of hand. I think I have at least a dozen USB cables laying around and every fucking time I can't find the right one. You have the little tiny one used on my camera. How about the small D on my golf GPS? Mini, micro, fuckyou. Then you have the other size used on a half dozen other devices. And then to add insult to injury you have another fucking size used just for fucking printers. Then you have everything else.

What the hell is wrong with you people! I have 12 USB cables in every shape and form, male, female...it's a damn darwin's wet dream of fucked up genetics and yet nothing mates.

I just want to update my golf GPS device and not have a damn cable meltdown. And yeah, it is some kind of standard USB interface, just not what I have on hand from a good 12-15 USB cables.

Give me a god damned gender bender. Now.

what the hell? micro-hdmi? i didnt even know that existed...

honestly, i praise apple for sticking with the 30 pin connector for all these years. even firewire is good, with only 4 and 6 pin 400 and 9 pin 800.

Except when they changed it and FW charging no longer worked! Same connector, hosed a lot of accessories.

These are the only ones I can think of:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:USB_types_2.jpg

There aren't *that* many out there. I have an adapter to convert to micro (on far left side of that image) from mini (second from left in that image), and that covers me on almost every new device. I have a few standard B-type connectors (center in image) laying around somewhere, but I can't remember the last time I actually needed one.

the proprietary cables annoy the piss out of me.

it bothers me to no end that I have to keep a cable around just to hook up to my sony camera.

I hate those cables. I bought a card reader so that I don't have to ever connect my camera directly, ever.

This I haven't used my digital camera in over a year now because I refuse to buy a new cable for it.

What I don't understand is why damn printers can't use regular USB cables

The bits used in communicating with printers are D shaped, thus the connector style.

Most devices use rectangular bits.

Get a $5 card reader?

It would actually cost me a whopping 3.29 on ebay for a cable. Its just the principle of the matter, also I just use the internal memory on the camera. I rarely take more than a few pics.

Even worse are Western Digital passport external hard drives. They flake out unless you use THEIR supplied cable!

Seagate's Free Agent Go drives OTOH, have none of these issues. You can steal the cable off a Blackberry and it fires right up!
