THEN DON'T!

I know snow is the scariest thing in the world, especially when you're driving your luxury Mercedes SUV. But it's Saturday. You don't have to be at work or school. So stay home, curl up in the fetal position, and leave the driving to those of us that can handle it. You live in Chicago, god forbid you could actually be able to drive in the snow. You might even have to put down your cell phone, put both hands on the wheel, and keep your eyes on the road in front of you!

People work weekends and have obligations. No choice for some.

Then learn to drive, buy a vehicle suited to where you live, and buy snow tires. Otherwise stop driving well under the speed limit and stay off the road.

Focus and concentration have been lagging since we started this technological revolution. We think we can actually multi-task, when our brains aren't wired that way, leading to 'distraction' accidents.

I've seen all those videos of cars piling up on expressways because they're driving way too fast in the snow/ice. They put so much trust in the technology of the vehicle, they think they're safe at any speed. ABS and traction control don't work so well when it's really slippery.

In both these cases I think technology and our ability to interact with it safely are proving more difficult than imagined.

Why should I have to stay home? I'm perfectly capable of driving in these conditions. When you live around here, this kind of weather is expected.

If I wasn't, I wouldn't be driving. And I'd think twice about living in an area which regularly sees such weather.

Just because you're scared doesn't mean everyone else is.

Yeah SandEagle's logic here is trash. Bad drivers shouldn't have veto power over the roads. Besides, if everyone lived by that SE would kill every thread and every forum he posts in.

If you're scared, incompetent, or distracted, either stay home or slow down and keep your dumb ass to the right so the rest of us can get on with our lives, it's not hard to be a little considerate.

obviously you are not capable of driving. if you were, you'd be more attentive to drivers around you and you'd know how to deal with the situation. you have an inflated ego and think that you are a great driver. laughable. like everyone else you are a nobody. passing through time and space until you eventually decay, wither away, and are forgotten.
PSA: the world does not revolve around you.

The world doesn't care if you're afraid of your own shadow. Get the fuck out of our way.

Or you know, you could always drive too fast and wind up in the ditch. Your call. This attitude is what keeps me in business.

Off topic, but is it me or as the AT forums been a bit grouchy the last couple of days.

Unlike Atlanta, Chicagoans really should be accustomed to it.

Should people drive slower in wintry weather? Absolutely. But there is such a thing as driving too slow.

It's because of society. People have lost their fucking minds.

This thread reminds me of an event the other day. I'm taking my 5 year old to beavers and the roads were nicely snow covered so I'm doing about 60km in an 80km zone. One of those awesome drivers comes up and blows by me... then a few KM up the road who do I see in the ditch?

It's what I love about living in Texas. Even here, in northern TX, we only get snow on rare occasions (probably less than 10 times, total, in almost 14 years I've lived here).

These people sometimes lose their minds when it rains, and they have to drive. Snow is fun to watch, and it's usually preceded by a light wintry mix, which then freezes on the road surfaces, underneath the snow. Since, even in the bigger towns & cities, snow removal and de-icing equipment is rare, they usually just adopt the "wait for it to melt" attitude.

We're supposed to be getting 4 to 6 inches today, and the temperatures won't climb above freezing until tomorrow afternoon. Almost guaranteed, I'll either have tomorrow off from work (paid), or a delayed reporting.

Best time I ever had was 3 years ago, when it dumped a foot of snow here. The town was completely paralyzed! We had an early release on Monday, the day it started, then had off Tuesday thru Thursday, and a delayed report time on Friday (which was my day off, anyways.....so I worked a grand total of 6 hours that week! LOL).
