RANT: I went to buy a TOYOTA today…

Thankfully, the horrible dealership experience saved this guy from buying a Toyota.

Now, go test drive a Chevy Malibu and Ford Fusion. Better cars, domestic, and no worries about speeding out of control 🙂

If you wanted to look at a RAV4, check out the Chevy Equinox, way better value any way you look at it.

You have to realize Toyota is coming off 20 years of being the default choice by mainstream car buyers. For those 20 years, Toyota's impeccable reputation for quality and resulting resale values moved the cars, salesmen were there just to do the paperwork. Now that reputation is dented and they have to fight for sales with the likes of Hyundai and Ford, but it takes a lot longer than a few months to change the mentality of the sales staff. Basically the free lunch is gone, but they are just not hungry yet 🙂

Try a different dealer.

I had such a horrible experience at my local BMW dealership that I actually wrote them a letter. That dealership was so bad that they never even replied back. I had bought two cars from them as well. I went to another dealership and it was like night and day. The other dealership experience was fantastic. In fact, some kind of customer survey came out that ranked that dealership #1 in the area.

This sounds about right.
Recently I went to two Toyota dealerships and the dudes seemed a little lost. Had no idea how to really sell the car. Refused to negotiate. Tried to tell me I didnt want a Highlander I wanted a Prius.
WTF?
Then I saw the price of a Prius. Realized why he was so desperate to offload it.
When I did a test drive I had to give the guy my drivers license. No big deal, I totally understand. BUT, the beautiful being took my home address off it and has been sending me a letter every 4 days begging for my business. I told him repeatedly I just wanted to look around and get a feel for what was available. Maybe he should have tried harder when I was on the lot instead of acting like a fool and then harassing me by mail for weeks.

Those poor bastards are gonna be in for some rough times for a while. Especially if they refuse to negotiate.

Well, all I can say is that you must be smoking some good shit. I like it, all that you've said is right.

Sounds like a horrible dealership experience. I would have walked out of there the second the guy told me to go find the car I wanted to drive. That's his fuck'n job.

i prefer to choose the car i want to drive, not let them choose for me.

Toyota's sales were way down long before this crisis about the accelerating cars hit. OP simply went to a dealership that was too busy to help him at that particular time. Nothing more to it.

If they don't have enough help to serve everyone, go to a dealership that does.

As i recall their sales were doing very well and is why they expanded so fast which in turn supposedly diminished their quality...so why else would they expand fast if their sales were "way down".
