RANT: I was robbed by a MD State Trooper

Got pulled over last night for doing 75 in a 65 at 1:30am in the morning. I hate to think I was profiled, but he probably pulled me over because I have out of state plates because most people were doing 80 on that road (97). Anyways, he realizes that I'm normal and walks up and says: "Here's a warning for doing 75 in a 65", hands me my papers, and walks away before I can even say anything. Then I look closely and discover that he didn't give my license back. I'm thinking wtf?! So I double check all the papers and no license: only registration, insurance, the warning, and some pamphlet about Maryland State Police's mission statement.

I was about to get out or motion out the window to him afterwards, but I didn't want to do anything that might jeopardize my life. So wtf, am I just supposed to call up MD State Police and file a complaint? This is hardly good timing in that I have an interview to get a Top Secret clearance with the gov't tomorrow, and I'm SURE they'll ask me for my license (btw it will be impossible to get a new NJ license in one day from MD). Anyone else had this happen to them?

F***ing cops, even if it was an honest mistake, it's still bs that he pulled me over for doing a 75 in a 65 (like that would ever hold up in court :roll;) </Rant>

I'm sorry I took your license. I was just going to drive by your house to drop it off, but since you posted the story on the internet I'm going to have to write you a ticket for doing 75 in a 65 and another for driving without a license.

Have a nice day.

I wouldn't file a complaint. It was probably a honest mistake. Just call the state police office, tell them what happened, and ask if you can have your license back.

75 in a 65 is still speeding. You were speeding. You got caught. Get over yourself.

You noticed your license was missing before he left, but you thought getting out of your car to ask about it would jeopardize your life?

Not a good rant. How does forgetting to give you your license = robbed? Plus he gave you a WARNING when he could have given you a ticket.

That's not a big deal. The officers ID number and name are on the warning he gave you (if he used the MD form I think he did). Got the MD state police website, look up the closest barracks to where you were stopped, call and give your information to the duty officer. They will return it to you. It was an honest mistake. He didn't rob you. MSP is a good orginization with some fine troopers. BTW: You could have asked him as soon as you realized the mistake. I find it more evidence of your paranoia, than real danger that you didn't.

57 in a 45 with a clean record on an empty road got me a ticket.

Cops nowadays are 95% Aholes, congratz on getting a warning ticket. Contact the Maryland Highway Patrol and find out where he is stationed. Contact the station and have them instruct him to leave it there. Drive by station and pick it up.

Ok, you were illegally speeding, and he only gave you a warning? Don't be a sissy, and I can see you really want to pull the race card too, " hate to think I was profiled". Nice.

Yep, must have been a mistake. They don't take your license in Maryland. However, they do this in Illinois, until you pay your ticket. I've always wondered if they could do that to me, since they didn't actually issue my license...

I can understand people's sentiments that it's not a big deal, but not having my license is a big deal to me when I have a career changing interview tomorrow. I now have to lie about the license because some cop with nothing better to do felt he would harrass me... then realizes that I have a clean record...

If you read the post correctly, I stated that I didn't have time to check my papers before he went back to his car... He did it really quick and muttered something that I couldn't understand.

I understand that yeah I was speeding but honestly there wasn't another car doing less than me. Add to the fact that I'm in the car for 3.5 hours and you can't tell me you wouldn't be doing 5-10 or more over the speed limit... Now I have to go an hour and a half out of my way of an already busy schedule, wtf!! LEAVE US ALONE COPS!

Nitemare: If you had a job where inadvertantly offending someone could get you fired AND sued. People complained when you did your job, people complained when you didn't do your job, and people are willing to shoot you to save $50. Yeah, it's a crappy job. They have a right to be a little anal.

better?

Just have a problem with cops using speeding tickets as local revenue generators when there are worse problems than people driving 10-15 over the speed limit. I mean I see people selling drugs on the corner with nary a cop around, yet I see them littering the interstate like the leeches they have become.

" I now have to lie about the license"

.ummmm I don't even want to touch that one. You are going in for a full SSBI for a TS maybe SCI and you are planning on lying to cover up a minor inconvenience. Real winner there.

"because some cop with nothing better to do felt he would harrass me... then realizes that I have a clean record...'

He isn't harassing you. He is doing his job. You were speeding, he stopped you, and you got off with a warning. THAT IS OUR JOB!!!!!!!

What exactly are you basing your blanket statements regarding police officers on? Is thier some study I don't know about confirming that 95% of police officers are aholes?

Heh, I guess it depends on the situation. He says he was on 97, so I'm guessing he was south of Baltimore. At 1:30 in the morning, I probably wouldn't have gotten out of my car either. The first time I ever got pulled over was like 2 miles from my house by MD State Troopers. They let me climb around in my car, very much out of their sight, where I could have had a gun hidden or something, to look for my registration in my car. I definitely asked them first, though. This is something I never would have done in Chicago.
