Do not FSCK with the servers..

Well someone just did. The internet wasnt working so ho humm.. what do we have here.. 2 machines in the network room. Lets see which one do I reboot first? Inkey Pinky Ponky.. nevermind.. lets do both.

Now the bloody accounting server is down.. good thing I do daily backups. But I am pissed off with the people at work. Cant you see the accounting system says in big bold letters "DO NOT TOUCH ACCOUNTING SERVER" .

Evidently that didnt get their attention. I sent the Junior admin out there (I have my last final in about an hour), hopefully he can restart the server, apparently its frozen after the guy did a hard reboot on it. The applications that the accounting system uses is client/server so the data is only on one system. Which makes my life easier.. as long as idiots of species ignogus arent around.

Arrgh.. !!

I doubt even if you would put those servers in a titanium box, with a huge lock on it, it would be safe from idiots...

Maybe you should make the reset and power button a bit more 'shocking' ;):D

[edit]: LOL it seems like we were all thinking about the same thing ;)

I seriously considering putting something to prevent these idiots.
My junior admin is no help... the last time the internet connection was down, he rebuilt the network drivers when all that was needed was to replug back the network cable to the router. Somebody had knocked it loose...

<< yeah but Yakko said it too >>

LOLOLOLOL sorry Yakko - but that was a brilliant line :p

if you try to idiot-proof something, someone will make a better idiot.
try telling them that if they touch/login/anything to any computer other than theirs, it'll shut down the room (ie. lock the doors & windows, etc.)

Put the power cord into a conduit that is welded to the case and the wall jack. Then weld a cover over both the power and the reset buttons. On that cover, put a fake reset button for them to press all day long. If you want to have fun, rig that button to a camera and a squirt gun to shoot them in the face.
What other fun can we have with server case modifications?

I love how you tell someone not to install a piece of software since you do not have enough licenses; they do it anyway; tell them to remove it and a week later its still there so you simply uninstall it for them and they complain that they can't get their email because outlook is gone. Duh! Go back to using what you were using a week ago. The whole reason for installing Office was to use Word to redo his resume because it looks better in Word. Well, work on it on YOUR home computer on YOUR time. Not mine. :|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|
