I reformated this Dell Laptop and there was no recovery disc included with it. I've managed to find the Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 wireless driver, so the wireless internet driver is working, but I can't for the life of me find the blasted integrated 10/100 Network Card driver.

Why does Dell make finding these drivers so hard?

I know it's incredibly difficult to go to dell.com/support and punch in your service tag, but if you try really hard, I think you can do it. We believe in you!

Be careful if you reformat to an OS that's different than the one it came with. Dell has a tendency to only give relevant drivers to the OS that it came shipped with, so you might have a more difficult time re-installing drivers with a different OS.

The recovery disc would be pretty useless as well then, since it's only good for the OS family that came with the PC.

There is a service tag on the back of your dell.
Go here and type it in. You'll then have a list of all the drivers for your computer.

Bloody fantastic, I paid $100 for the extra WSXGA+ LCD and I've found a dead pixel. :(

Time to go back to Dell.

They're all there. Go to support.dell.com, click "Home and Home Office", enter service tag, click next. Choose OS and language. I got a lot of drivers for your service tag when I chose Windows XP.

Owned?

I found lists upon lists of drivers... choose by hardware type of by laptop type. Nice.

your angry rant seems was beget of your own ignorance, young padawan
(aint i a stinker?)

only problem i c is gettin drivers onto your comp, bt since your wireless internet is working this shoudl not be a problem. ALso, i have yet to see a Dell that didnt come with a Driver install CD (unless you got it used or its really old and they didnt always do that).

But yeah, the drivers are all there on dell site, just gotta find'em

Who formats their hard disk without collecting all the necessary stuff to put it back togeather again. Dell even has subscription service where they will email you when new drivers for your specific system.

Im haivng the same sort of problems with a emachines setup I bought today. The comptuer worked fine when i got it with xp on it, but it had all the bloat on it so i formatted and i cant get xp to install on it for some reason...... and it didnt come with restore disc. I have been working on it for 4+ hours but I have just about got it.

No, OP is right, Dells don't come with cds anymore. They are all on the hard drive.

If it has a memory card reader, unplug it from the mobo. I had an emachine that did and it was tanking the XP install, very annoying. :|

Maybe from home, but the dozen or so dell's I got from SB last week all had cds.

I think they did, because now when you go to buy a laptop, theres an option for them including a backup CD for $10 more. Its a load of BS.

wow....you people. YOu'd think you'd know how to get hold of an oem cd and just use the serial on the side of your dell...
