When your co-workers are going to McDonald's for that delicious meal, just tell them that you're going to get something else to eat and you'll meet them later. I love wandering around a strange place by myself. When I used to go to Israel for work, I use to wander around on my own after work.

But really, eating ONLY the food you're used to in a foreign country is stupid. What's the point of being there if you're not going to try new stuff?

Did you guys go to a established resort or hotel to eat? In many countries you can safely eat at these places when the local vendors might not be safe.

When I'm hungry I'm not really into a lot of experimentation. Maybe a little something as an Appetizer, but when it comes to the Main Course I want to be sure I'll like it. That said, as long as the Ethnic food in question has Beef, Pork, Chicken, Rice, or Pasta and no funky Seafood, Insects, or other bizarre item I can eat it no problem.

i'm one of those that hates to try new foods. years ago i was in hong kong, and the only thing I ate was pizza hut and mcdonalds. for some reason i couldn't trust any of the food. come to think of it, i was even afraid to try the Mcnuggets at Mcdonalds..... in my mind I kept thinkin they were pigeon nuggets

A guy I work with will only eat at Chick-fil-a, Cracker Barrel or Ruby Tuesday. It is kind of annoying when we want to go out as a group while on travel together.

This is one of my BIGGEST pet peeves. I work with a lot of these types- they'll go to a seafood place and order a hamburger, they'll go to a French restaurant and order mac & cheese...they pick everything off of their pizza, they order everything plain, they hate condiments, and everything has to be made out of white bread, yellow cheese, chicken or beef.

It's not that I care what they eat, it that because of their pickiness, we usually have to limit places we eat, and it takes them 10x longer to order because of all the conditions they need to put on the damn order.

If I'm going to try new food, it better be a buffet. I don't want to place an order for some dish that for all I know could make me gag. Even if you think you know what your getting, foreigners will find some way to ruin it.
Now if you could munch a sample BEFORE you order, that'd work too.

hehe, ya. My Nephew hates Onions, Bell Peppers(likes hot peppers though), and Tomatoes(doesn't mind sauces). Really hard to order a Pizza other than Hawaiian, so we always get 2.

Why not just let them eat whatever they want without getting all worked up?

because most of the time when we eat they are social events, and we usually get together for a "team meeting" type of deal... so if it was an official type meet, it would be hard for me to just skip out and eat somewhere else

Please tell this to my roommates

Two of them have never had Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches
One of those two has never had salmon or tilapia, or pretty much any fish beyond tuna and thinks all fish is disgusting
Same one won't eat quesadillas...pretty much because he's an ass who should go jump off of a cliff

Another roommate has the same thing against fish.

I don't like seafood either. The only seafood I can handle is fish and chips or fish filet at mcdonalds. I rarely eat those because they are not healthy.

I just had ribs last night, and you told me about this place with no notice. maybe if you'd have told me about this place last week I could've adjusted my plans. As it stands now, I've still got a belly full of ribs, as I had leftovers for lunch.

I hate people who try new shit, when I use to work in a big office a few times I got scammed into "ohh let's go try this new spot for lunch, they have Vietnamese style Cantonese food I bet it's DELICIOUS! I got fucked a bunch of times like this. Food should be easily identifiable and contain these things only

1. meat
2. cheese
3. potatoes

hot sauce and spices as needed, but nothing else. I don't want to have to spend 5 minutes trying to figure out "WTF" is on my plate. and i'm not really the type to shovel unknown food into my mouth.

This is my word, I have NEVER had a bad meal at IN-N-Out EVER, but these "try something new" places I've been let down a bunch of times. I will never allow a co-worker to trick me into a new place to eat again. I've tried new things, I'm 33 and I know what I like pretty well :)

All you others can wander around the streets of a weird country and sample the cuisine from the street vendors. I'll be up the street @ KFC eating some chicken wings and mac and cheese thank you.

i'm sorry but thats pathetic. i used to 'hate' seafood until i was about 20 until i was in a situation where i had to eat seafood for a week, and it opened up my views on trying new food. to be honest, before that, i never gave seafood a reasonable consideration for i dont know what reason. my parents always made stuff with fish too, i guess it was the smell of sardines and squid that put me off when i was little. whenever my mom made a seafood dish she would always have to make something different for me.. i was a little bitch!

even though you aren't willing to try new foods, if you're gonna be eating in-n-out and kfc for the rest of your life, you will probably be another one leeching off our medicare taxes :|

Here, try this: :cookie:

I don't like to try different foods because I seem to have an unusually high tendency to dislike most things. Growing up, my mom would constantly make all these bizarre foods from all over the world, and insist that they were just wonderful. I disagreed with that assessment almost all the time. It took something like 15 years before she gave up on that and finally would only offer to make things I liked. I don't know why it took so long; it was a constant stress point when she'd cook for everyone, and I wouldn't like it - even if it was stuff she'd made before that I didn't like, somehow my tastes were to magically change. And I remember some things triggered a gag reflex, literally. Quiche, oh god, just the stench of that horrid stuff was enough to make me leave the house for awhile until the air cleared. It was just putrid. Had I not been told it was food, I may have assumed that a thousand rats had spontaneously died and begun to decompose inside the walls.:)

No sense forcing people to try foods they don't want. It's not like it's going to drastically enhance their lives. "I've tasted 5 kinds of squid! Someone give me a thousand dollars!" ;) It's just food, a simple energy source.
Besides, I eat mainly because I have to. If they had those "meal pills" like in 2001: A Space Odyssey, I sure know what I'd be "eating" for every meal. It's one reason I'm so damn thin, if I'm mildly hungry but I'm in the middle of a project, I just won't be bothered to eat. After several hours though, my hands start to shake, presumably from low blood sugar, so then I need to get something in me.

Perhaps she was trying to cater for other people's tastes too...

Which counties are 'weird' countries? All of the except the US I'll bet...

Do you at least eat good western food, like French and Italian, home cooked or from a restaurant? Or is it *only* fast food?

I shall have to write down the basic food groups so I never forget this

1. meat
2. cheese
3. potatoes

Acceptable condiments:

1.hot sauce
2. 'spices'

;)
