I don't mind sending in the resume and all that but we don't they ever respond. I recently applied for a job that I fit every requirement and more. It was like they took my resume and copied everything I have done for the job description. Now, its three weeks later and I haven't heard a word and job is still posted. I sent in my resume about 2 days after they posted the job.

This is not the first job that this has happened to. Also, there are not a lot of people in my profession and the candidates are few and far between. Does my resume just end up in the to shred pile or somethine? :|

update - I just got off the phone and now have three interviews at two different companies. They all called today. WTF, nothing for a year then whammo. I shall be employed very soon. :D Time to go and buy some lottery tickets.

you need to call them up after a week so that they actually take some time to read it. otherwise it just becomes another number in their resume database

Yes, many people like getting called, it shows initiative.

Obligatory reply from some smart ass "Yeah, well your skills aren't good enough"

Human resources people are the laziest and the most jack ass people in the world.

So true. I always call the up a couple days after I send in my resume just to "see if they got it OK", and see if I could set up a time to meet with them. Most of the time the people don't call you back, but if you call them and ask to set up a time, 90% of the time they will say sure. If you don't check back they assume you aren't that interested.

Yes, many people like getting called, it shows initiative.

In my experience, most of those people are usually in meetings when I call.

That's why you have to call multiple times per day until you get them on the phone :p

1) Your resume might suck. I've fixed PLENTY of my friends' resumes that were simply atrocious because they couldn't see what was wrong with them. Fixed resume -> job offers galore

2) You underestimate how many resumes employers get, especially in this tight market. We have a small office, and with a tiny ad for an admin. asst. we get upwards of 75 resumes A DAY. I don't have time to call people back, much less read all of them.

3) Call the employer back anywhere from 3-7 days and verify that they have your resume. That will bring yours back to the top of the pile if it was in contention.

My resume is professional and has been looked over by a number of people. I would love to call some of these companies except they don't list the phone numbers to the human resource department or they outsource the job hiring. I have called companies and gotten the run around when trying to talk to someone who is actual in charge of hiring.

If you see a job opening and you want the job you will have to go after it. That does not mean just send them a resume, you have to activily seek the job. Face to face is the way to get the position you want, do not take no for a answer the first time around, keep pestering whoever makes the decision, have your resume professionially drawn up, most that I have read are so fuged up that I have to wade through so much bs it is not worth the effort. You have to figure out just exactly what the co. wants in a employee and slant your resume to that job. Sometimes a little note as to why you want to work for that co. and why you would be a good and faithfull employee. sometimes a little ass kissing goes a long way. Talk to some other employees that are working at the co. this can give you some idea on how to approach the person doing the hireing or at least the first decision maker. You want the job? work for it.

Edit Holy smoke there were 3 or 4 posts here while I was typing.

I don't know if anyone else has responded, but you do realize that some jobs receive THOUSANDS of resumes for an open rec? You can't honestly expect a company to respond to every single person who sends in a resume....

If calling them doesn't work you might try actually stopping by the company.

The last company I applied for didn't respond to any of my emails. I think they just randomly pick emails to respond to. Well after spending a 30 minutes to try and talk to someone who could help me, I actually got through. The secretary of the recruiter left a message with the guy since he had already gone home for the day. She said he will call me on Monday. :)

They hardest part about getting a job is to push yourself to the front of the line. I hope that talking to this guy will get me in for an interview. Here's till waiting till monday.
