OMFG, FVCKING STUPID AS$ B!TCH.

So, i go to Pep boys to get some new tires. to be honest they have good prices on tires. i bougt the Futura arguments (pep boys brand, no name prices with : They Claim : Name Brand Quality). they are rated A B 760 or something like that. 80k mile warranty. $62.00 per tire plus their charge for putting them on and balancing them about $12.00 per tire, with tax and insurance i paid a total of $345.98. I bought this particular tire because there was a special on it, buy 4 tires (this particular model) and get a $50.00 gift card. so they are mounted and i go to pay for them. it's about 6:30 and people are starting to line up because everyone is coming in to pick up their cars. there are about 12 people behind me and she is ringing me up, she's done and she says good bye, i said, what about my $50.00 gift card, she says YOU SHOULD have told me FIRST.
rolleye.gif
, there was NOTHING ANYWHERE that indicated that i would have to tell the cashier first. It was THEIR special. so now she says, I have to REFUND you and ring you up again. (she is already showing some real attitude. she is taking her sweet time too. finally one of the people behind me says "what's taking so long" and she says, OH, He forgot to tell me BEFORE i rang him up about the special. So i turned and said, "It's YOUR FVCKING special. What is YOUR problem.

well after that, she finished ringing me up and was really polite.

BUT WTF is WRONG with people??

Treadwear 760?? What are those things made of? Iron? You'll be lucky to get any traction with those things. And what's with the "B" rating? Getting an "A" rating with a tire is so increibly easy that even el-cheapo econobox tires get ratings like that.

Call her back and tell her your spare tire is missing, and ask per chance if she swallowed it because it looked like she did.

here's a link to the tires.

btw, they were 640 not 760. the Toyo's on my Windstar are 700 rated 100k miles and they get good traction.

Pep Boys Futuras are rebadged Cooper tires, IIRC. I have 'em on my Acura now, they're fine.

thing is, i paid like $800.00 for the Toyo's on my wifes car (i don't mind the extra money, i'd rather have the best quality tires on her car) and i paid $345.00 for the Futuras on my car, pretty much the same tire. or very close anyway, tho the quality on the Toyo's are (from what i understand) definitely higher).

the people behind me chuckled when i cussed her out.

After you jammed her, you should have asked to speak with the manager. ;)

actually, i wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't the store policy and strategy. to sell the tires based on the special and conveniently make it difficult for the customer to cash in on it.

Agreed. But still, IMHO you're better off saving the money from buying high-end tires like Michelin, saving the 50-75% or more extra you'd spend, and just set up a more frequent tire replacement schedule. IMHO, newer decent brand tires > older premium brand tires.

I'm assuming you got the Toyo Ultra 800s right? What size did you get that you paid $800 for those tires? Those are not expensive tires.

agreed, i run my tires to death, i change my wifes tires pretty frequently. i just figure if the toyo's are warranteed for 100k miles and toyo's are known for their quality, they will be better during the 30k i'll probably run them.

ya, toyo ultra 800 premiums. 225 60 16"

they are not expensive compared to the Futura's i bought for my car. but they are more. i think i paid like $200 each installed. i know i could have gotten them for less, but i just didn't feel like going thru the trouble of ordering them online having them drop shipped to a shop and finding a shop i could trust so that i could drop ship them. i bought them locally and STB Tires was the only place that had them in my area.

1010tires.com has them for $107.00 per tire.

Treadwear over 400 is hard rubber, low traction. Especially given that the UTQG of traction for the tires is "B". (Almost all tires now sold for cars are rated "AA" or "A".) For $345 I can get a set of Bridgestones, a quality tire. You bought crap, from a place that sells crap, and now you're complaining that the service was crap? You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear my friend.

you are going to get me bridgestones that show a price of $64.00 a piece or so on a web site. now i have to pay shipping and then i have to find someone that will install them for me (of course that won't be free) . . .

i paid $62.00 a piece for the futuras. anything additional i paid, i chose to pay, it may or may not apply with other tires but i know that whoever mounts and balances them won't do it for free.

i just don't know a mechanic in the area that i trust. i'd rather go to a larger franchise that has some national backing so that if i do have problems i can take it back to them.

PLUS, i waited too long before i got new tires. i had less than 1/8" of tread on my front tires.

it was the best deal i could get, $345 - $50.00 gift card.

jeebusss...$200 a tire. I got mine in a 15 inch size for under 100 each from a local shop. Well if you have the money to spend like that...more power to you.

btw, you didn't address the TOYO's either. they have a rating of 700 with a UTQG traction rating of A.

well, it's not exactly like that. again, 1010tires.com has those SAME tires for $107.00 a piece. you can't tell me that shipping & Handling, Mounting AND balancing is going to be free. so EVEN had i chosen to go that route, i would have saved myself what?? $448 + S&H and Mounting and balancing = $650.00? Fine, but i don't know a mechanic around here that would do that.

so, i went the easy route. it saved me time and to me, that time is money.

btw, i do happen to live in NJ, COL is pretty high here. not sure where you live but i'm willing to bet your COL is less than NJ.

I live in the Metro DC area, I don't think the COL is lower if not higher here.

I would say for your tires

$107 for tire + $10 each for shipping + $20 each to mount and balance at the worst = $137 per tire = $548

so you spent ~ $252 to save time. That is prefectly valid, but I think you got taken, unless it is common for shops to charge over $50 to mount and balance in you area.
