[Rant] Ever been disappointed because a friend backed out on you?

I've been looking for a car the last few months and haven't been able to find anything until today. I received an email asking to see if I wanted to come check out the car. I can't go by myself because a) I can't make the 30-45 minute trip by myself since I don't have my own car and b) the car is manual, which I don't know how to drive (although I can't wait to learn).

No problem, my friend always states how he would gladly go check out cars with me any time. I call him and he's unable to do anything tonight because he's going out with his girlfriend. Hey, I understand that. I call the person back and ask if he can meet tomorrow. He says OK, check with your friend. My friend denies again after calling me back from discussing it with his girlfriend, undoubtedly because she has the day off and they're going to spend it together. I wouldn't be nearly as pissed if I hadn't been looking for a car forever and wasn't pushed aside twice because of the woman he spends every waking moment with.

I had to shamefully call the guy back and try not to sound like a complete moron and stated I couldn't go see the car. To top it off, my friend said that his schedule next week was pretty rough and he didn't know if he'd be able to do it and suggested I get my other friend to go with. Though I try as hard as I can not to sound like a terribly irresponsible teenager, I always seem to manage just fine at doing exactly that....

This is my first angry rant on here since I really have nobody else to talk to. I love this guy to death, but it just kills me how much time we all lose with him because of his girlfriend.

</rant>

Oh, if you feel like flaming me, here's a start :

1) I don't have a girlfriend so I wouldn't know how demanding it is
2) It's not his responsibility to drive me places and check out cars with me
3) Why the hell do you want a manual car when you don't know how to drive stick?

Even if you're good friends you can't expect him to divert his plans on a moment's notice.

Perhaps if you had called him earlier and the week and asked him to put some time on the weekend aside it would have made things easier.

That's not bad. Wait till a friend and you plan something for a few weeks, then backs out the day before.

I wouldn't expect him to divert plans if he had them. They were just going to be together. Not doing in anything in particular. I'm not as upset about not going to see the car as I am upset about always being thrust aside so he can be with the woman when he never ever sees his friends!

Trouble is, all they do is get some. You think you would at least want to have SOME time away from your woman to go do guy things.

Don't sweat it dude, just make other friends. He'll come back around when he realizes his woman is makin' him lose all his friends.
