[Rant] Direction?

You ever sit back and realize that your life has no direction. Im stuck working a part time job while i go to college to get my networking degree. Im not even totally serious about it, I screwed up my first year so bad my GPA isnt worth crap. I look back at my family and my dad worked hard for his money his dad did and so on. They all did jobs like carpentry or laid foundations, etc. These jobs were manual labor, I started out wanting to get a degree to get away from that. Now, I often think that i want to do something like that. Work hard physically everyday for my money, work a disgusting amount of hours a week and provide for a family (some day). Although other times I really dont want this for myself, because most times you are underpaid and under appreciated. (I gather this happens alot with any job though). So, I figure I wont do something too stressful on the body but I also got to thinking that I dont even want to do something with this Networking degree. I like computers but I figure I hate solving other peoples problems especially with computers. Its too late to change majors as im well into my junior year but I know that I dont want to do this with my life. I guess I'm just a confused person, I joined the military because of this and it really didnt help me figure out what i want to do in life.

Any thoughts opinions and obvious flaming?

You are the..what..100 millionth person to have this same problem, join the club.

I try to not think about my future as much, and live in the now.

Right now I have plenty of direction. I'm well on my way to finishing college, I'm almost hired on as a Reserve Officer for the PD I want to work for, and by the time I finish my degree I'll likely be working as a full-time Officer. My career could branch off in a few directions from there, but I'll play it by ear for now.

seems like you only got 2 options:

1. go ahead finish the degree, make the most out of it then pursue a career later when you have time, money and strength left.

2. start from scratch AGAIN!!

GOODLUCK!!!

So... are you stuck working in a part time job, or are you in the military?

both

im a reservist cause i wanted to go back to school. You know weekend warrior, once a month 2 weeks in the summer.

pinoy: i think im just gonna stick it out and see where it takes me, im too far along to start over.

Welcome to life. But seriously though, I feel the same way sometimes. It's hard to go after what you want when you don't even know what it is.

I will thoroughly agree with this statement.

I'd rather being doing a job i enjoy then working my butt off in college for a degree that may be not as useful when i get it. Looking at the latest Parade in the sunday paper, one listed mechanical engineer is only making about $47k, right now I'm not sure if mech engr is the field I want to go into.

I realized awhile ago that my life lacked direction and meaning. Truthfully, I like it that way. 🙂

most times i do like it that way , but lately just been thinking a lot more than i should.

can you take a leave of absence from everything?

maybe if you took a year off, did some travelling or something you might take the pressure of yourself and finally figure out what you want in life.

once you know what you want, it will be much easier to focus.
