So i have had a dfi board for the past 2 years and love it. Doing a new build and would love to use another DFI especially cause the 3rd pci-e port is FAR away from the Sli setup but .....

except for the cheep a$$ farking coolers they use on the NB or SB. You know those low profile fan coolers that die within 4-6 months. Then you have to rip the entire system apart to replace that damn $15 fan HS combo. Do ANY other MB manufactures use those damn things anymore?

UGH!

My NB fan/hs combo has been running on my Ultra-D for 2 years without dieing (knock on wood). However, my buddies did die probably around 1 year of operation. Also, it looks like on the 680i they basically went with an Evercool VC-RE with a DFI logo imprinted....thats the cooler people recommend replacing the dead DFI one with so I doubt its going to be much of an issue. If you really hate that cooler, you could get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813136168 or this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813136034 and be forced to

A) replace the coolers with a VC-RE/ Thermalright heatsink or B) strap fans to the existing coolers.

If you are doing any serious overclocking, many of the new heatpipe systems require air cooling to keep the temps under control.

you are a lucky man with that 2 years. Mine started getting REALLY loud after about 6 months. I then replaced it with ZALMAN northbridge cooler that worked well (6+months) UNTIL i updated to a newer video card that had clearance issues. I then did research and got the Evercool VC-RE. NOW 6-8 months later the bearings are going and it is screaming louder than a..... [insert something here].

Is there such thing as a maintenance free high end custom build ?

Thanks for the info about the Evercool VC-RE, I think I'm going to order several. (For old VGA cards, and for my DFI Inifinity NF4 board.)
