RANT: Chilton's manual

I was going to pull the instrument cluster out, but I wasn't able to remove the transmission selector indicator linkage. Disconnecting and reconnecting the speedometer cable was very hard too.

The problems with Chilton's manual are it tells you to do this and that without telling you HOW to do it on things that aren't exactly self-explanatory.

Another problem is the photographs are often useless since they're often for different model or different engine.

I love them both, with the exception that the Chiltons I have has the WORST index I've ever seen...

I like Haynes because they are model specific. The Brits are into DIY big time, and the

photos are OK. If I get serious about my car, I add a manufactures service manual.

Just recently I have gone into Autozones website and was surprised at the info they have on-line for repair. It may not cover what you are doing but its worth a look.........:sun:

I always wonder where collegehillshonda got their instruction manual. It's the most detailed, comprehensive manual I've ever seen.

It looks like a dealership, so they have factory service manuals.

Do you know where we can get that?

Older car=they can be had used.

Newer car the cost may seem high, until its needed.

The problem with using the manufactures manual is they always are referring to special service tool xyz5732987-9941-w37 or some such. I have had to make tools or adapt pullers....

There are usually a few different manuals.

Bodywork, electrical, chasis, engine and each cost about $100
