All over the local news and paper Arafat and other "middle east experts" are callen on the US for interfenction (sp?)
I mean why cant they handle their own problems, there thring to lure us in to a problem that shouldnt envolve us

Its like Vietnam all over again, i hope that bush makes teh right choice and doesnt intervene and just leave peac keeper Zinni in there to talk.

Is it just me or does it look like Arafat doesnt do anything to stop the violence?

Right now Arafat cant to sh*t and the Israeli army has said that that is exactly what their goal is, close of Araft untill the Terrorist threat has been removed.

There is so many bad feelings for both sides from both sides.

Screw him. I don't give a crap. Did u see that interview with Amanpour and Arafat? He acted like a child. This conflict could be helped by seeing Arafat and/or Sharon out of office (either one). Since Sharon isn't going anywhere Arafat has had his day.

"What?"

"Napalm sir...nothing else in the world smells like that... I love the smell of Napalm in the morning."

Wake up, this problem has involved us for a long time and always will. If it wasn't for us, Israel would have been in another all out arab war a helluva long time ago. Our support for israel in the palestinian crisis is one big reason so many muslims hate us and why some jets flew into a couple of buildings that killed so many people.

During the first half of the 20th century, the Jewish people that were living in the region were called the Palestinians. The current Palestinians adopted that name for themselves after the 1967 war. In reality, most Palestinians are Jordanians.

How would they have been in the arab war a helluva long time ago?

well if the muslims hate us then why not stop supporting 1 country or another?

We give Israel military aid and financial aid (2 billion?), and are a superpower backing them which just about makes them an untouchable. We also give a ton of aid to other arab countries so they would risk that too. Its just my take, but other arab nations would have intervened militarily on the behalf of the palestinians long ago - remember almost 4x the amount of palestinians have died in the past 17mths than israelis.

well if the muslims hate us then why not stop supporting 1 country or another?

We have a huge jewish population and also having them as an alli gives us a strong ally in that region, and I also think it is tied to the relationship between judaism and christianity, as we are a predominantly christian nation. But supporting israel unilaterally was much easier before than it is these days, when we are battling issues involving muslim nations ourselves, and don't want to isolate either side. Thats why the US votes in the UN resolution to condemn Israel's military action but verbally condemns arafat for not doing enough. If this admin had more guts it would be stricter with Israel and tie our aid to their commitment to the mitchell process, but we've supported them way too much to lighten up now.

Some would argue and I would agree that Israel has, in the past, acted with restraint at the urging of the US. I would say that Israel always acts in their own best interest first and foremost, but the US has been able to "restrain" Israel.

It is not accurate or fair to say that "muslims" hate us. It is like saying catholics hate france.

I don't understand why people put the #1 blame on Arafat. Although he is part of the problem, the rogue groups should be entirely blamed. And because of that, all negotiations are useless. Even if Arafat decided to succumb to all of Israel's demand, would the terrorists act stop? Nope.

they put the blame on him because he founded some terrorist groups and are allies with the others
