i want to include the f-word often in this post, but i will tyr to refrain.

about a year ago, this company called l.j. rothe (sp?) associates was calling my apt everyday while i was at work and leaving a message telling me that i needed to contact them. i was like, yeah right, im not calling these telemarketers back. but this went on for 2 weeks, so i finally called them, i was really really pissed. so this lady answers and asks me for my phone number and zip code. i was like screw you (but not edited for the kiddies), tell me who you guys are. she says she cant tell me until i give her my phone number and zip. so i yelled at her for a couple minutes (which i never do, cause i normally feel bad for the people that have to deal with angry customers), but i finally gave her my number. and she tells me they are a collection agency and i have outstanding debt, blah, blah. of course that wasnt true, so i flipped again, so she asked me what my name was. you'll never guess, but my name didnt freakin match who they were looking for (you mean people dont live in the same apt their whole lives? no way!). so i told them they better never call my apartment again, blah blah.

well, it just started again, the same stupid message while i am at work. then today, i just got a call at 2pm. they tell me i need to return the phone call today (they always say that), so i call them ready to ream them again and the message service tells me they are only open 8-5 on weekdays. so now im steaming that they leave a damn message on my phone telling me to call them, when they arent even open.

can i threaten to sue these people or something, for harrassment? it seems to me that there should be a law that they need to keep their database straight. i already told them that the person they are looking for does not live here. shouldnt they have to file that info? anyhow, im looking forward to my next conversation with them, i dont get to yell at people much, so it should be fun.

I think if you tell them to not call back and they do you can do something...but that might only be w/ telemarketers...

I had one of these too a while back. Basically I calmly gave the info to the lady on the phone, then asker her name, her companies name, address etc. Then I went f'in ballisic on her screaming profanities and telling her if they call my house one more time I'm sending all the info I collected to my laywer. They never called back after that time. They had been calling for over a month.

I used to be a debt collector. Call them and hang up on them. They HAVE to wait 7 days before calling after a hang up. Maybe you can just do that once a week.

Tell them that all communication must come in writing from this point forward. Then throw away their letters :)

it is illegal for them to ask you any information without FIRST telling you who they are and why they are calling. They then need to prove there is a debt. They cannot harrass you, threaten you, or speak of the debt with anyone else unless you give permission. If you send them a ceast and desist letter, by law they MUST leave you alone or be sued by you and fined by the gov.
