Rant: Amazon.com super saver shipping....

Geez, I ordered this watch on March the first, it was and still is listed as in stock.

If I would have paid for shipping I bet that they would have shipped within 24 hours. I understand that I got shipping free but to wait so long makes me a unhappy.

Has this happened to anyone else?

EDIT: spelling >>>

It probably will ship earlier.

It clearly tells you when the item will ship before you complete the order.

Why bitch about it, just cancel the order...

Yeah, it said ships within 24 hours... that was wrong. It should have said "ships in 24 hours unless you get free shipping, then we are going to make you wait..."

Why? Because I ordered it at 1AM on 3/1 and it is 2 days later. If I had paid for 2 day shipping they would have sent it yesterday. If they are going to offer free shipping to get people to buy their merchandise they should ship it out as soon as someone who is paying for air service.

But I wanted to know if it was happening to other people. Other things I purchased in the past shipped out faster even using free shipping so I wanted to know if things had changed since I hadn't bought from Amazon in a while.

No, it says "usually" ships within 24 hours, and as you are placing the orders it explicitly tells you when it will likely ship and arrive. On at least 2 of the screens before you complete the order. So basically you are mad at amazon for doing something they told you they would do.

I'm so glad my company paid for my Amazon Prime membership. I always made sure I had at least 8 business days to wait when I ordered with their free shipping.

Well do they do this to discourage people from choosing free shipping then?

They do this to get you to pay for their Prime service.

I don't order anything from Amazon now that I won't mind waiting 2 weeks or more to show up at my door.

Amazon has multiple ship level:

Free: You will receive your items within 10 days
Paid: 3-5 days
2nd and next day respectively.

When you choose super saver, amazon places your order on the lower priority. Meaning all the people who paid for the their shipments well get their orders before you. The only promise amazon makes to you is that you will receive your order within the time specified, there are no other guarantees. Otherwise why would people pay for deliver, everybody would just choose super saver all the time.

Perhaps, but more likely it lets them save money by filling the free ship orders after the paid ship orders, during slow periods.

Fewer packing workers = lower costs = they can better afford to offer free shipping.

No, I can't imagine this has happened to any one of Amazon's millions of customers.

WTF are you posting for?

It's not just to motivate you to join prime. They did this well before prime even existed.

Their standard shipping used to be a lot better before they started offering prime. It was not unusual for stuff to arrive two days after I ordered. Now it is a minimum of a week and a half for anything.

WTF? Read?
I posted because I wanted to know if this was typical of Amazon now. When they first started offering free shipping it didn't seem to take this long to process my orders, so I wanted to know if this was usual. I wanted to hear other's opinions, that's why I posted. If I start buying more from them I might consider the prime service...

This was never my experience with standard shipping. It usually took 5-8 business days even back then. These days it does take longer a lot more often, but I don't recall ever getting something within 2 days with standard shipping.

Yes, it is completely normal.

Pay for shipping & it will ship MUCH faster.

Prime is freaking awesome, makes me want to order everything from them.

When you select 'Super Saver' shipping, they CLEARLY state that it will/could take longer to ship. I don't remember the exact wording, but its pretty clear what're you're getting for free... Next time pay attention.

i bought some CD-Rs, enough to qualify for free shipping. It said 'usually ships within 24 hours'. It didnt' get shipped until like 5-6 days later. but that's ok. I didn't even realize it's that late when I finally got the shipping email. I totally forgot that I ordered the CD-Rs.

WRONG. Prime only premiered last year and Super Saving shipping has always been around. They do it so you can pay for higher shipping. They obviously make zero money shipping items for free, but they know it attracts customers.
