I installed a Samsung 32" curved monitor. Love the thing but there was a missing part. Not a major part but a plastic piece used to organize cables behind the screen.

Called Samsung trying to get one sent. They said that part isn't in their list of saleable parts so they can't ship. They referred me to their official parts company. The parts company basically said the same thing. Sent me back to Samsung.

They took my serial number and told me to make a warranty claim. I asked, "how is a missing part a warranty claim?" My problem, I've had this monitor for 14 months and just took it out of the box so it is out of warranty.

Not an expensive part a few $$ but it's customized to organize cables. I'm kinda pissed they wouldn't just sent one to me. I was thinking of going to a B&M store. Buying a second one, taking out the part and returning it.

Justified??

Not only not justified but fraud. You didn't check it until after the warranty expired. That made it a "you" problem, not a "them" problem. You do what you want, but don't come in here advocating fraud and trying to get others to agree with it.

I'm assuming you've tried a part number search on ebay or something? Or perhaps a 3D printing model site?

That seems like something you should be able to find but yeah that is surprising.

On the opposite note, the company that makes my HT speakers was incredible. I bought some speakers like 12 years ago second hand from someone. I noticed that one of the drivers wasn't making a sound so I went to unscrew it and look inside, but one of the screws kept spinning because the thing it was screwed into behind it was loose. I ended up getting it out but put a rip in the driver with my screw driver.

So I emailed the company about it asking if they had woofers from this model and snapped a pic, asking if I can buy one. They replied asking me for my address. Like 4 days later a random package showed up and I had a brand new driver from them.

And this is a mom/pop type of business.

Lame, but so is buying something, scavenging parts, and returning it. The gas alone would cost more than it's worth, not to mention your time. It would be easy enough to rig something up, and evaluate future purchases from Samsung. I won't buy their phones due to the loaded shitware they include.

Not very familiar with product liability law, but a product being "incomplete" of all functional parts is a defective product "legally"; the "whole" was not delivered upon purchase to the buyer. You could have returned it after receiving it if it was in the window or demand that, "the seller refund partially or eat the return".

It's a minor defect with little damages, but it's a violation of "law" nonetheless. But of course, the cost of litigation under a consumer protection act is well beyond the the cost of the part, thus a de facto anarchy exists in which companies can omit parts they sell or permit minor defects in products to enter the marketplace.
The return window is basically a form of alternative dispute resolution for such small violations of law.

Buying another and returning it is no big deal, because you probably would have returned the original one had you checked in the return window.

Its a bit crappy.

TBH you'd probably be able to tidy those cables up better with some cable ties.

I understand your frustration. This does look like something a bit of wire coat hanger could stand in for.

I'd also be annoyed. Have you tried talking to your supplier? The one that I mostly use for PC building has on a few occasions sent me spares for say the case I've typically used (like a spare case front), or a bunch of screws when a case was missing an unusual one.

Of course if you're going to try your 'buy another monitor, nick the part you need and return it' strategy I wouldn't suggest trying the above suggestion first :) Your idea does however potentially give the headache to someone else.

There is no legal recourse. The monitor should have been opened when you recieved, not 14 months later after the warranty ran out, and the return window was long closed. What if it didn't work at all?

On the other hand, a zip tie would do the same thing as that part, so I don't see an issue.

I bought it online from B&H Photo so I don't blame then. Box is original seal from factory. You can buy an open box at a reduced price, but they state up front may not have all accessories.

I can do the buy and swap at my local BestBuy. It's 100 yards from my gym so no big deal.

I may just use zip ties, but I want do to the swap partly on principle.
