Rant about WMP9

To be honest, I haven't really delved into the many functions of WMP9, but I just clicked on "Media Library." What is all this crap in there: Auto Playlists, Premium Services, etc.? I didn't make any of those categories, but of course, WMP9 won't let me delete all the crap I've never used. What gives?

And when I click "Radio Tuner" and search for "Digitally Imported" I get most of DI's streams but not vocal trance. To get that, I have to go click on the streaming icon on their site. And when I do that, I can't add it to the "My Favorites" section under "Radio" (something else I can't delete). WTF!

iTunes gives you a directly link to all DI stations (including VT)
Itunes also has a minimally intrusive, clean media library

your call

Now, how can I search radio stations with iTunes? I can't find streamingsoundtracks.com's stream. And of course, when I add it manually, it won't let me drop it into my "Radio Faves" playlist I created. Once again, WTF?!?

Just use Winamp 5.

Winamp's mp3 encoder sucks compared to iTunes and WMP.

then use wmp/itunes to encode mp3s. Use winamp to play them, is that so hard?

Because redundant programs are not most people wet dreams, like they seem to be with the geeks around here. "OMG I CAN USE EAC + LAME + DIRECTORIES + WINAMP + NERO TO DO WHAT ITUNES DOES! Therefore iTunes sucks"

Okay. Here's what happens with iTunes and streamingsoundtrack.com's stream. I first have to find the URL of the stream since I can't find it in iTunes' radio section. Once I've found it, I can open the stream manually in iTunes by going to Advanced>Open Stream. Once the stream is playing, it appears at the bottom of my "Library" playlist. Now, I have a "Radio Faves" playlist in iTunes with my DI.fm streams. I can drag and drop the streamingsoundtracks.com "bookmark" from Library to Radio Faves, but a copy of the bookmark is still left in Library. I want to delete the bookmark here, leaving just the one in Radio Faves. When I delete the bookmark in Library, it also gets deleted in Radio Faves. WTF?

I honestly don't know why it's doing that. You'll probably have to post to the apple support forums to get a solution.

I just tried it again: picked a radom radio station from iTunes Radio list, added it to my Library, then moved that bookmark from Library to "Radio Faves" list, deleted the bookmark in Library, and once again the bookmark in Radio Faves was gone.

way to over exaggerate what I said. There's nothing wrong with using winamp to play and wmp9 to rip. WMP9 rips in WMA, I don't recall winamp doing that. And how often do you rip cds? Not as often as you play music right?

I haven't used Winamp 5 Pro yet, but I thought they were using LAME for the MP3 encoder?

It's not just directed at you, but at, in general, the opinion that using 5 different programs is better than one because each is superior slightly in it's own right. Sometimes ease of use is worth the hassle if a 30 minute involved task becomes a 15 minute task done with one mouse click
