Yeah rescue helocopters wouldn't be getting shot at. And the TV's would still be in the stores.

Yeah and most everyone would have left the area before the hurricane instead of ignoring the warnings...

Left to where exactly?

Of course it would, a national state of emergency would have been declared, the entire nation would have been excused from work to head to this affluent city to help out all because it was a white affluent city.:roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:

Truly, it was an issue of income bracket rather than race. Race is only a factor out of coincidence rather than intent.

Regardless, it is awful down there:(

NO is 70% black...

..and?

and you can't say this has nothing to do with race...

It is a friggin natural disaster! It has nothing to do with race, class, or income level. It has to do with scope and location and the unique circumstances of the city. There have been similar problems with ANY natural disaster of this scope and size.

Maybe you should have gone down there and given them a ride...

You have no idea why people do what they do. It's easy to just sit there and pass judgement and say you are an idiot for not leaving...

It doesn't matter anymore...it's time to help these people.

I'm going to have to disagree. If every ff, and po went, then we would be seeng NO × 100. Of course the National Guard are taking longer than expected but thats a whole different beast.

How do you plan on helping all these people? You have to transport all the equipment and people into the area first. And that?s kind of hard to do when all the roads are washed out. There is no power, water, sewer services of any kind left. The pumps that are needed to pump the water out are broke the levees need to be fixed. You don?t seem to realize how large of a logistical undertaking it is and is going to be. It doesn?t matter if they are black or white getting the amount of material that is needed into the area is going to take time we just can?t make it appear out of nowhere.

I agree. I was simply pointing out that you said white affluent city. Most of the people that didn't leave probably couldn't afford to. Yes, most of them are black, but more important is that most those that stayed behind, between 50,000 and 100,000 couldn't afford to leave. I was arguing that I think income was the leading factor in deciding who was able to leave and who was not. Now we are getting endless reports of people, those who actually left, running out of money in hotels.

*APPEARANTLY STATE PAYCHECKS WERE DUE TOMOROW, FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 2ND according to some reports*

Then we should expect thosands of casuallties because of the inherent sluggishness of our Federal Emergency Relief.

It may be illogical for me not to accept that, but I simply cannot. Simply put, this disaster has overwhelmed us all. I simply cannot beleive that we have to sit back and watch people die, kill and mame, and ...

urgh...fvking unfathomable:(

Every firefighter, every police officer, and every coast guard enlistee should be ther right now.

Adding tens of thousands of people to the area before you have a supply chain in place will just exacerbate the situation.

If there's any doubt that america is still racist this "effort" sould show it clearly.. not much has changed since 1965, Ii's just more subtle nowerdays hiding behind delays in evacuation and assistance to a predominatly black place like NO..compare NY or Andrew efforts to this disgrace

I'm not even sure it was an issue of income bracket. When you hear about Fats Domino, other musicians, and tourists being trapped there and I think there were failures in other areas. It sounds like a complete failure in terms local officials not having the planning in place to get people out of New Orleans and people not having the good sense to get out.

I'm sorry but I would have been out of there as soon as I heard "Cat 5".

Clinton actually made an excellent point when he was on CNN today when he said:
All I'm saying is the way they got stuck there, I see why they feel the way they do. But the people that put them there did it because they thought they were saving their lives. And then when the problems showed up, they had a lot of other people to save. Now they've got hundreds of buses. We just need to get them out. I think they'll all be out by tomorrow. Didn't they say they would all be out by tomorrow morning?

If the levee hadn't broken none of this would have happened. You can't even blame the levee breaking on Bush though as the levee that broke was just recently upgraded to full recommended specs. Planning for Cat 4/5 levee upgrades wasn't even slated to be completed until 2008.

Care to support that statement?

Make sure to include whether or not the main infrastructure (IE roads, firehouses, police departments, levees, etc) was wiped out, if there were no people around to help initially, if there was mass looting, raping, and violence going on, and other things that may attribute to the effective relief given in all three situations.

All three situations are completely different.

STFU. I see the Coast Guard and other rescuers making every effort to rescue people regardless of color. It's not a question of want it is a question of logistics ass.

The military, The national guard... no one can just go into a state and take control.

It is the state governor who has the authority to make things happen.

Now, before we go on and on and on about whether or not all of this is happening because they are black, or whatever...

HERE is an interesting perspective to read.

State Leadership failed... I will say it again.
