Rant about the IDEAL WOMAN!

Okay, I do not normally rant about anything but today I feel the need to do so.

Since I start work next week, I decided to take it upon myself to go out shopping for some new clothes for my orientation. The is a wonderful mall very close to me and is full of wonderful stores both expensive and not. So, I make my way over this afternoon with full intentions of spending lots of Skoorb's hard earned money to make myself look nice in some new clothes. I walk through many of the stores, looking at prices and styles and then I start to try things on, mainly pants because that is what I need.

After 3 hours, I came to the realization that clothing manufacturers have decided that women are to have no hips and no butt and that they are to be perfectly straight like little boys. MrsSkoorb is NOT perfectly straight like a little boy! I am a woman and therefore I am shaped like one! I do not want pants that are slung so low that if I bend over, I risk losing them nor do I want pants that are skin tight and balloon at the bottoms like elephant legs! Then again, I don't want grannie pants that are up around my boobs. I simply want casual pants that FIT me and make me feel comfortable. I went into so many different stores and just about gave up out of pure misery and frustration.

Now before you think "Oh great, another woman not happy with how she looks in clothing," this was not the issue. I mean, if they FIT me I might be able to say that I didn't look good. Quite simply, nothing fit. I am not a strange shape, I am NORMAL. I just don't understand, I really don't. Everyone else must be freaks....

Sigh.

There. I am finished ranting. Thank you.

BTW: Skoorb got a pair of jeans out of it. :)

I completely agree! Either we have to look like we are 14 yrs. old or 114 yrs. old! The malls need to find some middle ground here!

It used to be normal for women to be curvy, now everyone expects you to be like 14 year old boys. There are some guys here turned on by that.

Not me. Give me a curvy voluptous woman any day.

I was just curious. Some of these mall stores, it's hard to tell which is which anymore. I get mine at Costco, but I'm not much of a fashion buff. :)

What stores did you go to?

My wife always complains about finding "normal" pants, too. She has the best luck finding nice looking, comfortable pants at Sears, Mervyn's, and JC Penney.

All of the trendy, expensive stores seem to cater to stick figures...

I feel your pain. I'm not built like a little boy either and have problems with some types of jeans/slacks. RL Chaps really suck.... I'd have to say that you just have to keep on shopping until you find a clothes designer that really gets it and stick with that brand. ;)

Women are supposed to have curves. & they're supposed to be soft.

Fvck stick figures, sex isn't supposed to be a sword fight.

hey MrsSkoorb- I know what you mean. I am really short and small so it is incredible hard to find jeans that fit all cute and what not. They make all these small sizes with leg lengths that go on for days!!!! Who are these people that fit into a zero but are 5'7"???

Anyway, since I am a GAP fiend, I'd ask if you tried the Low Rise boot cut...yes they are low rise, and yes they are boot cut, but I find that they actually fit quite naturally on your waist (like just below the belly button), and don't really flare at all...just enough to get over your shoes. I thought you may have skipped them because of the name, but they are not bad. Let me know what you think.

Good luck!

That's funny...the only store I found a pair of pants that fit were in the GAP! AND on sale for $12.99 which made me happy....
I have a hard time with department stores...I don't know enough about style and would end up looking like a frumpy old woman! I need those stupid plastic people wearing outfits in the store window! :p

I went to Parisian, Sears, GAP, J.Crew, Banana Republic and many more but those are the names I can remember...sigh...

Sorry to hear that...I would say maybe it's the mall, but a whole mall can't be wrong. it's hard for me to find clothes too, and I'm a guy...I enjoy shopping and went with my ex a lot....took her a whole 20 minutes to scour Somerset (which, mind you, is rather large), since she knows that nothing will fit. (She's a little different tho...5' 3", good hips, really skinny, B cup)

Good luck in your future endeavors, however...maybe you know that a certain brand or designer fits you well? You could always be dangerous and try one or two from eBey or something.

I dressed like that in high school during the grunge thing. I could have smuggled Mexicans across the boarder is some of the pants I used to wear.

/me agrees completely w/ Zakath15 :)

don't be frustrated, it's nothing wrong with you, it's something wrong with the world :)

oh, and one other thing.... I REALLY like women's pants that are completely straight legged, but start thin at the waist and then drape gently over the curve at the top of the butt and then hang straight down :D *very* nice and sexy in a much subtler way than ultra-tight pants.

You might try Lands End (either landsend.com or through Amazon). I've been buying men's clothes from them for over a decade. They're oriented towards classic style more than cutting-edge, but the quality is very high and at good prices for what you're getting (a shirt might cost 1.5x JC Pennney but lasts 3x as long).

At least for men they have a great selection of sizes including the tall sizes I need. Sizes also stay the same for years on end so once you find something you like it's safe to order more in six months.

A great selection of both cotton and shetland wool sweaters too.
