We can't bust heads like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere - like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say.

Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...
ROFL!

I agree with the op on one point:

Being old does not give you license to waste class time with irrelevant anecdotes, dumb questions, and stupid tangents. I've had a couple classes over the years where a bunch of class time was taken up because of an old person taking advantage of their age to just blather on.

The OP should've just been like "I've had enough of this shit" a fucking clobbered the guy in the face.

Thread would be more interesting.

One thing I noticed about going to school with youngsters; gawd damn, they are stupid.

The professor already covered that topic. STFU so we can move on. If you're too stupid to get a topic, hire a tutor. Don't bore me and the rest of the class (and waste our time) with your inane/dumbass questions.

My MIL just graduated with her BA at 40+ yrs old. She was a "Senior Scholar", one of the top 7 students graduating. At the honors dinner her advisor said this:

"She's a remarkable person. As a non-traditional student it can be hard to go to school with all these young people. It's especially difficult here in the School of Journalism, which requires so much group work and cooperation. Every semester I get 18 to 20 year old students coming to me complaining about an older student not being available for group work. I ask them to specify the problems and they always say the same thing: he wasn't available to meet at our regular time, when we called her to set something up she'd blow us off, etc. Turns out their 'regular meetings' were every Thursday at 2 o'clock and the offending student had a job. Or they'd call to set something up and he'd 'blow them off' because they wanted to meet at a bar, at 11 at night on a Saturday, with 5 minutes notice and he had kids to care for. In my experience, any time a young student complains about an older student it's highly likely that the younger student has no concept of living in the real world. But, somehow, ____________ never elicited a complaint from her classmates..."

Seems to be hit or miss at my university. You have either the super annoying douche-meister older people, or the goody student type that you want in groups projects.

You're piling on TOO?

I haven't had a single old guy interrupt things, but I never went to a community college. The problem is the groups of self-centered younger folk that won't shut the fuck up talking with their friends who then complain in lab that the lecture didn't cover the lab material because they were too busy talking (or texting) to notice. Children fucking suck.

OP:

Your problem is with this one individual not all "old" people. You sound just like the bitch you claim he is, except you're worse: you have zero credentials or life experience at all. So maybe you should STFU?

That does it motherfucker...Tomorrow, I'm sitting next to you...I had two big bowls of beans tonight and washed them down with a couple of beers...I'm gonna be tuned up. :p
Holy Shit!

I consider that a death threat from some of the guys I know. :D

OP, it's not the age, it's the person.

Gosh....

Old people really are defensive, aren't they?

I took a class with this one guy, age 40 or so, who I became friends with. I really enjoyed going through the class together; we would share notes and ideas about assignments. It just made the class go by smoothly.

However, if someone described in the OP was in my class, I'd be pissed. I don't care how old you are. Don't waste my time and money by talking all class about your life story.

But I guess that is apparently another reason not to go to community college.

What a bunch of old and bitter fucks in this thread. Stop going to community colleges and wasting our valuable time with your infinite wisdom and life experiences. Better yet, don't even go to community college at all if you know so much.

Best statement in the whole thread.

Someone has to slap down the youngsters.
College is not an extension of HS, even though some think itis and act as such.

Once you hit the real world; you will find out that it is better to keep your mouth sut and let people think you are afool rather than speak and prove it.

How defensive would you be if someone painted your entire demographic with a broad, sweeping brush that didn't necessarily reflect who you were?

It's ignorant. I would hope that someone with any modicum of intelligence, regardless of age, would see the flaws in that.

Not at all defensive because OP is making goofy, non-sense criticisms that aren't worth a response. I suspect I've had more non-traditional students in my classes and labs than OP has had as classmates, and imho non-traditional students are unremarkable compared to traditional students. The only real difference is that they plead different flimsy excuses for poor performance. ;)

Being older does not automatically equal having more knowledge. That's a common mistake people make. I know tons of 40-year-olds, including my mom and people I've met in college, who are far from being wise.

LOL_WUT?? I dunno, those who are in school at an older age to better themselves and their lot in life would seem rather wise to me.

I didn't start school until I was 29 but I always admired the students even older than I was as most of them had full time jobs, kids and families to deal with. In addition they weren't there for the oOllege experience but to actually learn something.

Sure, it is ignorant, but I don't that that was what the OP was doing. And even if it was, that happens all the time. It is a part of life.

See the following quotes

The problem is the groups of self-centered younger folk that won't shut the fuck up talking with their friends who then complain in lab that the lecture didn't cover the lab material because they were too busy talking (or texting) to notice. Children fucking suck.

I get stereotyped for being young, for being Asian, for being male, for going to a private college, for being poor....

The list goes on and on. Everybody experiences it.

Furthermore, the OP's problem was not specifically with old people. From reading the OP, I don't get the vibe that he just hates anyone above the age of 40 and hopes they die. He was specifically talking about the know-it-alls or show-offs, which may or may not be a higher percentage of the "non-traditional" student popultion compared to the "traditional" student population.

I know the type of people the OP is describing. However, none of them were necessarily old. Most of them were my age. I still would like everyone with that type of personality to STFU.

Good thing it mainly happens in general classes, which I give only a small percentage of my attention ;)

She is smoking hot and seemed like a freak in bed.

Wait we need clarification. She seemed like a freak or she seemed like she would have been a freak?

The guys creds look legit to me. Might want to listen to what he has to say.

Hey, I'm not that young, then. The cheapest first run films I remember were $2.75 and gas was $1.70.

:colbert:

....well, this is more of a response to whoozyerdaddy.
:\

What happened to the $0.25 and $0.29 respectively

Well, now you know how many of us here feel about "OMG, they all are nerds, tiny, don't smile, 4' tall, and of course small penis" from the ignorant gang of ATOT.
