Rant: 1 Month with Kidney Stones = more tests...

I've had 5 kidney stone episodes in the past month, 2 of them putting me into the ER. They gave me some nice little pain pills to get me through the rest. Today I went back to the Dr., the one who removed the first pair of stones at the first ER visit. And they still have no answers. Gave me a jug to pee in, scheduled a CT Scan, and told me to come back in a month. Oh and gave me a refill of the little pills. Between this and the surgery 2 months ago, I've got like 11 hours of GPT left total.

So why do I get these things in the middle of the night (between midnight and 4am)?

Why 36 years without any, then 5 in a month?

A month has gone by, why don't they have a clue yet as to what is causing them?

My condolences.

I hear the only thing more painful than a kidney stone is a gunshot wound.

Is that true?

Thanks all for the kind words. I just wish they'd come up with a reason, so we can make a change. They don't want me changing eating habits or anything like that right now - specifically told me not to. I just want to know why so we can fix it.

I have to ask - how big are these things?

Not very, at least not the ones they had me "capture". I don't know how big the 2 they took out were (big enough to cause total blockage from 1 kidney). The one's I captured where about the size of the a pencil tip. I'm told they can be even smaller and cause serious pain.

They can bid quite large and have to be removed surgically (you don't want to know how they "went in" for mine - needless to say I was not conscious at the time). Seen ones larger than a golfball, and I'm not even in that part of the lab that often.

I have talked to women that have done both and they agree. I passed one a while ago and I know if I hadn't known of a way to get rid of the pain (hospital ER room) I would have killed myself.

Never been shot. :)

But in the ER, they gave me multiple shots of Demerol and some anti-inflamitory because the pain was so bad.
