Range Of HDD temps

What???? I have two maxtor drives [1 120GB (got at frys for $50) and 1 80GB] and they are still running so I'm wondering how these drives are failing. I have MBM5 running and set to it's monitoring the drives, when I enabled the alarm to be 55C* I noticed the drives easily passed the 55*C mark so when that happened, I just upped the case fan and the temps dropped dramatically. (I have the fan running on slowest speed until I run processor intensive stuff and or HDD intensive stuff. I have only one case fan (thermal take smart case fan 2 4800RPM) and it sure as hell does a good job of getting all the heat out of the case. Possibly overheating the drives?

BTW whats a good max temp for HDDs? I thought 55C* but it could be less or more, just want to clarify.

FYI it may look confusing but simply just look at the temp parts and tell me if they seem alright, wondering what I should set my temp alarm at in MBM5, I have the ALARM set at 55*C.
