Moss probably considers himself above catching passes from anything but elite quarterbacks so he'll probably stop trying once Favre retires, but when that happens the Vikings are going to have other things to worry about anyway.

Yup. If the Vikings do not give him an extension, he will be worse off than he was with the Pats.

I think your final statement describes the Moss situation, but I'm not so sure it applies to Maroney and Seymour.

Maroney isn't a very good RB, and since the Broncos were willing to give up a 4th round pick for him, it was time for the Pats to let go of someone who never quite lived up to his potential.

Seymour on the other hand was still a very productive player, and would have commanded a fairly large salary. But, the Raiders were stupid enough to dump a 2011 1st round pick for him. It doesn't matter who you are, a first round pick for an aging DE with a huge salary is a trade you do without much thought.

As it relates to fantasy, biggest loser is welker. He is now a mandatory double team. Biggest winners would probably be the farve-moss combo, although I wouldn't start them this week and it may be another week after that for them to get synced. Other winners are tate-hernandez as their receptions should go up. Undecided how this will affect the NE RBs as they will probably have to take more runs/screens while at the same time defenses will probably also shift to cover the same with no deep threat.

I don't see anyone double teaming Welker, he runs short routes. If Moss really is going...that should mean Gronkowski gets more passes. So that's good. They need to pass to him a lot more than once a game. I agree Brady hasn't been spreading out the ball too well this season. Except for...the first game of the season I think it was.

They live on drama. The Patriots are a highly visible team. So are the Vikings. And you've got media favorites Brady, Favre, and Moss all involved. They're going to want to manufacture as much personal drama as possible regardless of whether there actually is any or not.

Well, the rumors around here are that Maroney's work ethic sucks which is why a far less talented player (BJGE) passed him on the depth chart. Supposedly last year's sit-down sessions with BB were forced on him and he basically expected that because he was talented and good in college, he could do the bare minimum and be good in the pros.

I don't think he had a shitty attitude beyond that, but his lack of work ethic must not have been a locker room booster.

What you said about Seymour is definitely true. The Pats jumped at the opportunity simply because of what was being offered.

So, I stand partially corrected on Maroney and corrected on Seymour, but my cleaning house point still stands (I think). Moss, Maroney, Merriweather being benched, TBC being benched, Thomas (last year) benched and cut... Pats are trying to build what they had in 01-06 again.


As for Moss, I just heard that a condition of the trade is that the Vikes have to extend him. THAT makes a lot more sense. If Moss walked at the end of the year, particularly as a malcontent, where do you think he'd LOVE to go and what team would LOVE to have him? Sexy Rexy and his Gangrene?
 
I just picked up Brandon Tate for one of my fantasy teams. It should be interesting to see if he gets the tosses that Brady would have thrown at Moss.

Moss averaged a TD per game played and has caught more TDs in the time period that the Pats acquired him than any other player in the NFL.

I think his point is that the Patriots' offense was more consistent before Moss got there. And I tend to agree. They scored fewer points, but did so with regularity. They didn't force the ball to one player, as they have done countless times with Moss. There are tons of factors on a football team, but I think CHFF is trying to point out that Moss isn't all that he's cracked up to be and that because he is considered such a great receiver, the team forces the ball to him more often than not.

I'm not saying they're right, but I understand the point that they're trying to make. You also have to remember that this was the website that advocated the patriots trade Moss in 09 and use that money to sign a big-time defensive player or players.

That would have been pretty smart, wouldn't it have? Get something for Moss while he's still worth something and shore up their (now-hurting) defense.

Man my wife took me to some vikes practices. I wouldn't bet On Tavaris Jackson.
I personnely have never seen anything like joe web . Think a young more gifted athlet than Vick. This guy if he stays healthy is the future probably starting in 2011.
 
Unfortunately Brad Childress is too proud to admit he was wrong about Tarvaris Jackson. It's going to take a situation like the one in Philly to get Webb as the starter.

I did as well...for both my teams. I have Brady on one of my teams so I think this may be interesting.

It's simple. The Pats are not a better offensive team without Moss. The problem is that having Moss did not play to their strength. Brady is not a gun slinger. He is a game manager. That means he relies on people to run their routes for 10 yards and his ability to read the defense. Having Moss on the team in 07 complimented Brady well. HOwever, it has given everybody the false sense of what Brady is. He is not a QB that throws bombs. He could do it with Moss, but again, it's not his strength. Moss was just an extra tool to the the Pats offense and that exploited other offenses. What happened is that the offense was now under the spot light as having Moss be essential and integral to the offense. Brady turns from a 10 yard pass machine to a 30 yard play maker on every other play. That is not his strength. So while the Pats where a better team with Moss, Brady is a better QB without him. That, in an essence, makes the Pats worse team offensively, but a better team as a whole.

Fact. And well said.

Brady's greatness isn't in his yards per attempt or even the yards he puts up in yards in a single game. The reason he's the fastest QB to 100 wins is that he doesn't turn the ball over. He has the highest career TD to INT ratio.

He is not Peyton Manning or Dan Marino.
 
kinda blows. I mean, the Pats are basically waving the white flag on this season 1/4 of the way through. Good job guys. I'm sure Aaron Hernandez will pick up some of the slack, the guy's a freak, but he's just a rookie at this point

With our without Moss, this season rides entirely on whether the Patriots' young defense can step up. If they do, the team is headed to the playoffs. If they don't, the Pats go home whether they had Randy Moss or Justin Bieber playing wideout.

Short term, yes it looks bad. Lets look ahead, however. If we kept Moss, I am pretty sure Brady will still have that pressure to pass to Moss. His QB rating suffers when he is in that mode and the whole offense just falls apart an panics.
