random wireless disconnections with two different routers.

i experience disconnections only during heavy file transfers such as downloading and also losses during internet games. ive tried changing wireless channels and also firmware update. im not exactly sure which channel i was supposed to use so this could be the problem. any help will be greatly appreciated

use netstumbler to find an empty channel at least 4 channels away from another AP. It's better to share a channel then be less the 4 channels, as all 4 overlap, and then instead of "load" it is seen as "noise"

Guys,

I had the same problem. My default channel from Belkin (pre 802.11n) router was somehow reset to 1, probably by a rogue program. Kept loosing the connection every day until I went into the manual and reset it manually back to the default channel of 11. No problems since then well over a month ago.

I have cox.njt in Northern VA. Occasionally, the cable modem loses the signal. Once this happens, I just turn off the router and cable modem and then repower them back on in the reverse sequence.

when i used net stumbler it only detected my wireless.

When I use Net stumbler, it doesn't see any at all, not the wireless 2 feet from it nor the wireless it is on. All i get is "No wireless adaptor available". What gives?

on my laptop, i get the same thing. here's how i fix it

with netstumbler running... remove and reinsert the PCMCIA wireless card. On a desktop, there is probably a better solution 🙂
