looking at an old bottle and i think:
"canadian whisky"
under that it is:
"A BLEND"
so my brain said what did these guys blend their whisky with about 100 years or so ago?

Blended with other whiskeys to meld the flavors together and produce the optimum "mmmmmm" effect as it slides down your gullet.

The quality of the blend also effects the buzz you get. A crude example is the diff b/t a beer buzz and a liquor buzz. Two different animals.
