random text changed to hyperlinks, possible virus?

My friend has something (I'm assuming a virus) on his computer that takes the word "game" and changes it into a hyperlink that leads to http://get-faster.com/go?games . I had him scan with the newest version of Spybot and Adaware, but nothing. I tried searching google for "text to hyperlink" and a few other things but came up empty handed. Anyone know what this could be causing this?

Have you tried suggesting that your "friend" run an A/V program as the programs you listed DogFromDuckhunt are "anti-spy-ware" programs?

to be honest, it does sound a lot like spyware. interesting.
 
He says he has, and it came up with nothing. I guess I'll just have him get AVG and use that, because I know that it will be up to date.

Edit: Yeah, I really think its spyware more than I think its a virus, thats why I had him run those first.
 
What sites does he find this on? Is it all sites, or just a select few?

Cos some sites (like AT) have ad software which make certain words into hyperlinks 🙂

Dunno, but I'd shoot the computer. Anandtech articles have been plagued by seemingly random hyperlinks on words for a long time now and they don't seem to be able to stop it, what hope does your friend have?
