Random Shutdown Problems

Every now and then, when I go to shut down the computer it begins the process and right before it turns off the computer displays a screen which says:

Windows Protection Error

Please restart your computer

This happenes fairly often, especially when my computer is running for longer than a day at a time.

It is probably a heat issue? have you checked into that?

Well, I have my stuff properly cooled. By the time I get into windows my CPU is running at 45 deg. which it drops fast unless under full load in which case it stays the same.

I used to have this problem with the NVidia 6.31 drivers. The problem went away with the 6.34 drivers.

It's very possible that your video card is causing trouble. Can you check the temperature on that? Do you have the optimal drivers installed for it? Is your Windows installation fresh or is it all bogged down and installed over old versions over older version, etc?

Verify everything. Try running your system with only one stick of RAM, to attempt to isolate the problem. Try running your system with minimal components, leave it running for a long time and see if you get the error.

Your system could possibly just be extremely bogged down and be messing up. I once had a really small hard drive loaded with an old version of Windows and only 1-2MB free (sometimes 0MB). Whenever I would boot up, it would say there was a registry error and that my device(s) would not function properly.

Anyway, just check everything. Hopefully you'll isolate the problem soon enough. Good luck!

Well, interestingly enough I am using the nVidia 6.31 drivers. I though they were latest one that nVidia had released.

I will check into this possibility and let you all know what comes of it.

I have Abit KT7 Raid, proper cooling, and I get the same Blue screen and Windows protection error ((

or is that general protection fault?
