Random restarts, freezing on loading windows

I recently put together a computer with the following specs:

2.4c Processor
512MB PC3200 Corsair XMS
Radeon 9800 Non-pro Video Card
16x DVD Drive
52x32x52 CD-RW Drive
120gb Western Digital 7200 Hard Drive
420watt Thermaltake Silen Purepower Supply
Abit IS7-G Motherboard
I've been having problems with the pc restarting out of no where which first began when installing some windows updates. Soon the computer would not boot to windows and began freezing when loading. I have a feeling it may be the hard drive because I had some errors when installing windows. My voltages according to my BIOS are as follows:

CPU Core: 1.50v
DDR Voltage: 2.65v
AGP VDDQ Voltage: 1.55v
ATX +3.3V: 3.37v
ATX +5V: 5.05v
ATX +12V: 11.97v
Battery Voltage (+3v): 3.29v
Standby Voltage(+5v): 4.99v

The fsb is currently at 200mhz with the ram timings set at 5:4.

Know of anything that could help?

There are a number of things that could cause this. A couple could be power supply related.

1. If possible, try your setup with a different power supply. Even good brands occasionally have an infant failure.

2. If the line voltage in your area has been spikey (thunder storms, etc.) or has been dropping below standard, a surge protector, or better yet, a UPS, may help.

If your whole setup is new, you may have some intermittant component such as RAM, vid card, etc. You'd have to test each item independently to figure it out.

Hope that helps. Good luck. 🙂

Well I'm pretty sure its the hard drive or a faulty Windows installation. If it were faulty RAM or video card, Iw ould get beep codes and the computer probably wouldn't post.

I'm pretty sure its not a PSU problem because I had the same problems with a difference PSU. I think I'll just return this hard drive and get the Special Edition one instead.
