Random reboots are almost always caused by either power supply problems or memory problems.

Almost always is correct, however I had a modem that was causing reboots in IE one time. I moved the modem to a different slot and it never did it again. In his case if he has onboard NIC, he may want to try a pci NIC?

I have a pci NIC, perhaps I'll try a different slot. Although I haven't gotten the problem in like 2 weeks, since I uninstalled Bittorrent. Could the traffic be overheating the NIC or something?

Apparently there are some weird issues with BitTorrent and certain NIC/motherboard combinations. I think the author talked about it on his homepage. Might be worth trying Azureus or ABC instead of the official client.

[Edit]

Here you go, I knew I had seen this problem before 🙂

BitTorrent makes my machine blue screen! What should I do?

If you have a DSL modem, especially an Alcatel, you should upgrade your drivers. If you have a Linksys network card, you may have to upgrade your network card drivers as well.

while our problems may be different... in the event they are the same... I have ABC BT and my system crashes on me still. This time I'm sure BT wasn't up though. MIRC was however. It's very odd. I went 4 days with no crashes (I had to reboot for an install) and then I went maybe less than a day and overnight the computer locked up. I have xp set to not automatically reboot on crash so when I looked at the computer this morning, the keyboard lights weren't changing as I was toggling "num lock" and "caps lock"... so I knew it had happened again.

Hmm, interesting however, mine doesn't blue screen at all 🙁

Just restarts.

I guess I'll try another BT client.

In addition to that, what is the bugcheck you are receiving? I didn't see that listed anywhere in the thread. If you disabled autorestart, we'll stop on the bugcheck screen until you manually reboot the machine.

I'm not receiving a message, and I have Automatically Restart unchecked 🙁

Just installed Azureus BT Client and have gotten 2 BSODs since install. They are of the "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS" variety.

I went to Linksys.com and tried to download drivers for the LNE100TX v4 and chose WinXP as my OS. I downloaded the drivers but when I opened the driver interface (its in DOS) there was not an option for Win XP--just 2000, 98, 95, etc.

So now I'm pretty confused as to what I should do 🙁

The Win2000 drivers should work fine, I've seen that kinda thing before with manufacturers. Give them a try and report back 🙂

God Linksys' driver support blows 🙁

Worst install package ever and it still has no effect.

I guess buying a new ethernet card is the only solution?

Just about anytime Windows XP gives a BSOD, it's a hardware problem (and yes, generally, PSU or memory). I had that problem once and remedied it by swapping out every piece of hardware I had with hardware that I knew worked. It ended up being the motherboard. :frown:

edti: speeling and grammer...

I've read a lot of things about shoddy drivers causing BSODs whe using bittorrent. The problem occurs when you open a LOT of connections, something bittorrent usually does, but no other applications do. Try limiting the "Maximum number of connections per torrent" in the Transfer section of the azureus config to something low.

Will try.
