Random Reboots

hows it going all? this is my first build so please excuse the noobie questions.
This is my rig:

AMD Athlon 64 processor 3200+
Asus K8V SE Deluxe motherboard
1 gig of corsair value select
600 watt power supply
xfx nvidia 6600gt
maxtor 160gb ata
OS: windows xp pro

well my computer hasnt been acting right since i first put it together, at first it would just randomly reboot so i try to isolate the problem by swapping out the parts. I swapped out the PS and ram but not the video card.

Well through some updated drivers and so fourth no more random reboots but now i would get the blue screen of death after i quit a game. The screen would say something about my physical memory etc... This happens every single time. I was playing commandos3 and umm whatever free game came with the video card. So i started "investigating" what to do. then i started reading and found out that the blue screen was a "normal" thing with the 6600gt but with the 71.xx nvidia drivers, it would fix the problem.

At this time i just reinstalled my OS and everything else. Now theres no random reboots with the 71.xx driver. Now there is no blue screen but the problem now is when i do play games it restarts everytime, not even when im playing at the menu. This time i was trying to play WC3.

so wtf do i do? next thing im am considering is AFLASH bios update and i just dled the nvidia bios files. any help would be greatly appreciated

update: i didnt flash the bios or anything but everytime i try to run aquamark3 the computer restarts...any idea??

What are your temperatures? It could be a heat issue.

heat within the case or heat of VC? if heat of VC i dont know how to check the heat of VC but the heat of the case is around 95-97degrees

What about the processor temperature?

if thats the case how do i fix this? how do i even check the temp of the VC
but i dont see how it could be, i have 5 case fans

one more thing, the screen goes blank/black then something "clicks" right before it restarts

I used to have a similar issue with my Athlon 1000 Mhz Socket A back in the day.

I ended up checking and changing a number of things, which eventually took care of it:

- Replaced power supply stock 230 watt PSU with 300 PSU (it was underpowered)

PC still rebooted. The researched and found out that sometimes the power being supplied to the PSU isn't clean.

- To make sure its getting clean power I bought a UPS.

It still rebooted, so i thought it was a heat issue, i took the side off the case which helped reduced random reboots, but they still occured.

- I upgraded CPU Cooler, and modified my case to house 2 big heat extraction fans.

The problem still occured. I basically was about ready to give up, when I asked a friend who built PC's to take a look. He ended up tracking it back to a badly seated MOBO, apparently it wasn't earthed properly. He completely rebuilt by system, made sure every screw was earthed. He also found a stray screw that had come loose and fallen beneath the motherboard. After all of this I had a flawless Athlon.... but it took a lot to get there.

Hope this insight into my nightware over 3 years ago helps.

Regarding monitoring heat, most new mobo's have a utility that interfaces with your motherboard under windows, check the manufacturer website and see if they offer one... Generally they sit in the system tray and you can just double click the icon to check your temperature status.

thanks i think im gonna have to do the same but im going to try a few more things before i do that
