Its me again
I'am getting the BSOD { IRQ Not less or equal }, { Page Fault in nonpaged area } , { USB port.SYS Address F72DDC53 base at F72D4000 } , I have changed the PSW to 400 watt , went from 2- 512 MB PC2700 DDR 333 back to 2- 256 MB , SDR DIMM { which i was running } even back to old video card . Do you think i should change the clock speed back or could it be the mobo or cpu failing ? Got the side panel off with fan blowing in it too , i'm at the end of my rope . It will reboot even when idle , I have read about every post on this an still same old thing . I have also ran memtest too
Thanks for the help in advance
Tommy

Did this just start recently, or has this rig always acted up. If recently, did anything precede this (changed hardware, installed software or driver, installed Service Pack or other major update?).

- First of all, disable automatic reboot on error which is enabled by default. Windows normally reboots on a serious error, but this also usually keeps you from seeing the actual error message. Right click My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Settings button under "Startup and Recovery", uncheck "Automatic Restart".

- If there's a specific date prior to which this system was totally stable, try using WinXP's System Restore to put the system back to a save point prior to that date and see if that helps (you can always restore it back).

- Did you install your motherboard drivers? Without them the system may seem to run okay, but it won't be stable. That's a VIA motherboard, so you should probably have installed the VIA 4-in-1 drivers, but check the manufacturer's web site. Some mobos have mixed chipsets. You're safest downloading the latest motherboard drivers from the manufacturer's web site.

- I know you've swapped the RAM but I'd recommend running a RAM tester like MEMTEST86 all night to see if the system is stable outside of Windows. You need to find out if it's a hardware issue or if Windows is to blame. I'd say if a memory tester runs 12 hours without crashing, it's not a hardware or heat issue.

- If you're over clocking, don't, and see if that helps.

- Set all your BIOS settings to the "Safe default" - your BIOS usually has a setting that sets everything to default safe. This is not the best performance, but it's the most stable configuration, and you can go from there.

- Have you run a thorough virus scan and spyware scan? And I mean THOROUGH spyware scan. Read my recommended Spyware Removal prodecure in my Blog here: http://soldcentralfl.com/flyingpenguin/penguin_blog.shtml#spyware-removal

- Try pulling ALL your cards except the video card and see if that helps. You might have one card with a PCI IRQ channel conflict (random reboots are a common symptom of this). SBLive cards are notorious for this BTW - if you have an SBLive throw it away and use the onboard sound.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the reply
What I am getting when it reboots is IRO Not Less Or Equal or USBPORT.SYS
No it hasnt always been like this. I have changed cpu , mem, added new video card.
This is a fresh install { formatted hdd when all this started } and i always disable auto reboot just in case I have any problems {like this}I have even changed it all back to what was in it before and i still get the samething . Look in prior post its got the specs of puter. I have ran memtest86 for 11 hrs with no problems. I have ran Thorough virus scans too . I am beginning to wonder its the mobo going bad ? This is a summary of whats on puter:|

You say you changed the PSU to a 400w. What brand PSU is the new one, and what is the old one you were using. 400w is meaningless by itself, as a quality 300w PSU is far superior to a generic 400w. I would also recomend running memtest on your new memory, and if you should use something like motherboard monitor to watch your temperatures, idle and load temps. Also, that error seems to be commonly related to a driver issue, and since you are also getting a USB port.sys error, I would try disabling USB in the bios, or updating the motherboard drivers. I've always had problems with VIA chipsets and their drivers making things unstable, so thats my first guess.

FWIW: I think you'll find that the message you receive is *IRQL* not less or equal. This is a quite common bugcheck code, and I believe the reason is that a device driver has just attempted to access part of a resource (usually memory) it currently has no access to. Since the stack may or may not be corrupt at this point, the problem might not even be in the device driver mentioned... (and of course, faulty hardware can cause this as well)

At this point you need to play around with your device drivers and make sure you have all the latest drivers for your chipset installed. stevty2889 is correct about checking memory and PSU.

Searching http://support.microsoft.com/ for the bugcheck code ("DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" IIRC) may reveal more information.

As Bike said that is usually a driver related error. If it's ALWAYS an error in USBPORT.SYS then I would suspect something is wrong with the USB driver. Re-install your motherboard drivers (download the latest ones from your web site).

If Memtest ran 12+ hours without a problem I would be *fairly* confident it's not a RAM or PSU issue (although an all night RAM test does not replicate the stresses on a PSU that running in Windows does).

I'm personally leaning towards a driver issue.

You can confirm whether it's actually relates to the USB driver by disabling the USB ports either via BIOS (preferably) or in Windows Device Manager. If it behaves itself with the USB ports disabled I'd say that's confirmation it's a USB driver issue.

It may not be the USB driver itself - you may not have installed your basic motherboard drivers (PCI bridge for instance) incorrectly. Again, try re-installing the latest mobo drivers. It looks like this is a VIA chipset mobo so basically your mobo drivers are probably going to consist of just the VIA 4-in-1 drivers BUT there are mobos that mix chipsets. It's possible you have a non VIA northbridge chipset for instance. Definately check the mobo manufacturer's website to see what mobo drivers they have available. You may even find there's a seperate USB 2.0 driver for your mobo.

Hope this helps...

as odd as it may sound have even seen some errors like this get much better by doing a reg clean you might want to think about trying that also.

as far as mem goes m running DDR now i went back to SDAM and ran MEMTEST 86 no problems .The old PSU came in the tower it was a Starlogit was just a 250 watt the new is a SurePower 350 watt , yesterday i loaded Fail Safe Bios and i couldnt even get in windows all i would get was BSOD that was reading IRQL NOT LESS or EQUAL , SF.sys , Ntfs.sys , Win32k.sys. I would get these different ones every time i would reboot
I have even cleared my bios setting back to factory setting and still same thing . I have noticed that my CPU Multiplier is 15.0 x should it be that high ?

I am about ready to change out mobo and get one without the VIA chipsets on it
Have did all yall said same old thing
anymore IDEAS
Help me
Thanks

When you install XP, did it have any issues copying files from the cd to the HDD during the blue setup phase?
