Hello, for the past couple of hours I have all of the sudden been getting these random reboots and system crashes. When it restarts, the screen says dumping physical memory to disk, with a error code that reads something like this - ***STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x80604047, 0xF702098C, 0x00000000). What is this and why is it happening? It happened along time ago I remember. This computer is instable now it's intolerable. I tried a reformat but as I was installing Windows, the system crashed again. I was able to continue the installation by using the Windows repair tool (something like that). But still the problem persists. What couold it be? I havew a feeling that it is a memory problem...Help would be appreciated.

What are your system spec? Are you using windows XP? If so, before trying to re-install, did you disable automatic restarts? It could be a memory issues since you are getting when trying to install windows. I would recomend running memtest over night to test the memory. Could also be other reasons, but that would be a good start. Also check your temps, overheating could cause problems as well, or possibly a weak PSU.

It's probably the hardware itself, memory or PSU, but you could also try clearing the CMOS, which has helped me a few times in a similar situation.

I had similar problems to yours. I tried to blame it on windows at first but it turned out to be faulty/low quality memory. I put a stick of crucial in there and it ran beautifully:) See if you can borrow another stick of good memory and test it out.

Yeah I'm leaning towards PSU or memory. Specs -

Gateway (POS computer for the fam)

1.5gHz P4 Willamette
Intel DH845V (I think)
768mb of PC133 (I added 512mb of CentonPC133 later on)
40GB Western Digital HDD
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
SB Audigy 2 ZS
I don't know about the PSU, I'm assuming it is a 300w.

I installed the 9800pro and the extra 512mb of PC133 back in Nov (stupid idea of trying to make this POS a gaming rig...) and all worked fine up until about July of 04. Then I was experencing crashes to desktop when I would play games. Now the whole system crashes. I'm almost positive that it is the PSU, which can't handle all of the components. I guess I'll have to live with it until I build the new gaming rig.....Then I'll buy a Dell for the family. (Dell makes great 400$ desktops, so no flaming please)
