Random rebooting in Win2k?

It's been about 3 times now that Win2k will randomly reboot my computer by itself. It's really weird.. I thought it was an isolated issue til I spoke to some people at my university and found out that at least 6 others have the same
problem.

I'm not saying it happens like every other hour, but the fact that it happens worries me. Anyone else experiencing this or know why this may be happening?

I'm not doing anything in particular when it happens, nor does Win2k give any indication before it reboots.

Go into System Properties and uncheck the reboot on error. That might help to stop reboots.

Possibly the reason you are getting reboots is from system errors....Win2K's default setting is to reboot whenever this occurs.

Yes and by unchecking the error you will see a BSOD with the fle that caused the error.

I've had it on my web server a few times as well. It is odd because I barely touch the server so it seems that the error is self generated.

It seems to me that the whole 2000 family will need a non-beta SP sooner than later.

even after unchecking that option i still get random reboots.. bsod flashes then reboot.
i've isolated the problem to be an issue with:
mx300
abit bx6_rev2
fcpga cpu (in this case celeron II)

hmm.. I'll uncheck "automatically reboot" and see what happens.

FWIW, I'm running a Celeron FCPGA 400 on a Slocket converter on a Soyo 6BA+III.

I've have the same exact problem. I'm running Abit KA7 right now. I believe it has to do with driver problems but now I get random freezes. Ugh, what is the deal?!

Haa haa. I'm just giggling as I read this thread 🙂 I've actually had about 3 reboots myself. Not sure just why. Guess it's just Micro$louth reminding us what OS we're using. Ahh.. just noticed another thread with a similar title. Think I'll check it out 😛

Well everyone, it seems that the reboots were caused by the Nvidia reference drivers..after taking them off evrything is okay. My other friends have had the same type of problems with incompatible drivers (scanners, etc). After removing teh drivers, no more reboots!

Try the leaked driver version 5.32 instead of detonator 2 (5.22)

Hmm, I recently upgraded my System to a FC PIII and now my system reboots randomly (Had a S370 Celeron 400 before w/No problems). Any one else with a flip who is getting these random reboots in Win2000 look in your event logs and see if you rebooted due to a Bugcheck. From my Event log: "The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000001a (0x00041284, 0xc6e49000, 0x0000549f, 0xc0c00000). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\MEMORY.DMP.". (To view you event logs, right click on "My Computer" Choose manage, Under the "System Tools" tree is the "Event Viewer", I found this error under "system&quot😉 If you are getting this error or were but found a solution, please let me know.

I get reboots as well. I'm running a P2B-D with dual PIII-500's. I think I have tracked it down to W2K and the audio card (Ensoniq AudioPCI). It seems to occur right about the time I get an ICQ message. Most annoying.

I'll be re-loading my OS in a few days, along with re-arranging my PCI cards to make room for my Promise and dual 30GB Quantums. I'm hoping that will make it go away for awhile.

My NT 4 Servers never got along well with audio cards in it. Once I disabled the on-board audio, the servers stability increased (not saying they went 100%, NT could never be that).
