random rebootin continued

I replaced my PSU and just a few minuetes after booting up and the system was ready to use, it rebooted!

I have tried just for the sake of trying, a clean boot, and selectively restarted each file group, but it won't repeat the re booting, didn't think it would since it nevers happens by any thing i am doing....

right now i am letting the computer run, and checking it every once in while.

so far there has not been another re-boot yet....

since the first one right after replacing the psu

so i will have to wait awhile now and see if it will repeat..

in the mean time, any one have any other suggestions as to the possiable cause????😕

1/2 hour later it rebooted, so the problem is still there and this is happening with a new PSU installed (300watt atx starcraft psu).

MORE INFO: RAN FOR OVER AN HOUR AND A HALF IN SAFE MODE AND NO REBOOTING OCCURED, this may or may not indiacate something, since the reboots are random..

I HAVE RUN A FULL SCAN WITH NORTON ANTIVIRUS, and turned up nothing.

ONE OTHER THING OF NOTE, while opening and closing some programs, on one or more occasions after i closed the program the arrows on the shortcut icons were gone, doesn't this seem virus like behaviour????

ALSO RAN A RAM TEST UTILITY, and passed
AND RAN A CPU TEST UTILITY short test but it passed

i have checked all cables in and out and the wall plugs and surge protectors.

WHAT ELSE TO CHECK????

COULD THIS BE A WINDOWS 98 PROBLEM AND OR SOFTWARE OR DRIVER PROBLEM????

I've never heard of Starcraft PSU, usually it's a good idea to stick with quality names such as Antec, Enermax, and Sparkle. Any chance you can exchange that for one of the above mentioned?

Yes i could exchange it, but i don't think it is the problem, being it is new out of the box today, the problem is else where i think, but i do not know what else to do, yet.

0's in my head? what is that suppose to mean????, if i knew what the problem was there would be 1's. I am trying to get help trouble shooting this, and that is why i am here in this forum.

by clean boot i assume u mean a fdisk/reformat/reinstall
my system required this..maybe win98 has become corrupted (sounds like it)

i replaced on the advice of another member of this forum, everyone that answered my first posting all agreed that that was the culprit.
as far as I knew and know there is noting wrong with my original psu but it seemed logical as a place to start in trouble shooting, so that is my reason for replacing the psu.

i just spoke with a tech support person at the company that made the new psu, since the problem is still here, and he seems to think it is a virus.

Since this first boot up today the cd drawer opened but nothing loaded to the screen, and the power buttons and restart buttton were inactive and the machine could only be turned off via the switch on the psu.

he said it "sounds" like a boot virus and Norton is not picking it up even though i have run a couple of full scans.

and he has suggested i run the machine from the w98 rescue disk and see if the problem occurs, so i am going to try that.

i will post more here asi come across any thing.
